I'm warming up to Barron. He's got great instincts. Injuries are worrisome, as his athleticism. I'm concerned he's overrated because of the awful safety class. I'd prefer several other players over him. All that being said, I could live with him being the pick.

With a better pass rush our safety's will look much better.

The best way to protect Romo is to pair him with a defense where he's not asked to step back and sling the ball down the field 50 pass attempts a game because we're always in a shootout.

I would disagree. There are 5/6 defensive ends/ defensive tackles that will go off the board between Cox and Crick with maybe Coples, Poe, Brockers, Reyes, Worthy, Still. Smith will be the second safety.
I agree with you 100% on the guards later. I'd much rather have Barron and Zeitler. I'm warming up to Barron as the potential pick, but I still have some reservations about fools gold from playing with other very good players.
If he is the pick, I think any defensive end or defensive tackle in the 2nd or 3rd is likely to be a reach given how picked over the group will be between pick 9 and 35. The chances are a better player at corner, guard, olb or even 3rd receiver will be available instead of de.

The problem with trading back and selecting Barron is that it probably won't work. I just don't see the Jets or Eagles passing on Barron. If we're going to select him, it's going to happen at 14.
Yes, our pass rush was not good last year, but I think having a horrible secondary had a lot to do with that. I mean, you can't have no pass rush when the opposing quarterback is throwing the ball right away because our secondary leaves guys open right away. Barron will be a very good player and by the time training camp comes, he will most likely be 95-100% health-wise. Selecting a safety at 14 isn't the most common thing to do, but we might just have to. Our secondary needs a major overhaul and if we select Barron, we would get better and also younger.
I would love to get Cox or DeCastro at 14, but I don't think they will be available by the time we pick.

I agree with this. You can say the same with CB. If Jenkins is healthy we don't need a day one 1st round CB like Gilmore or Kirkpatrick. I would hate either pick, but the drop from them to say Fleming, Robinson, or Boykin is that far off and we can get them in the 2nd or 3rd.
The same with 3-4 DE. I don't see much difference as a 3-4 DE in COx, Still, Reyes and we maybe able to get a DE in the 2nd or 3rd. Winn and Crick and Wolfe could be servicable year 1 and start year 2.
Barron in the 1st, Zeitler in the 2nd, and get a CB Fleming via trade in the late 2nd or early 3rd.
You will still need a DE and a NT and C.
DE Winn in the 3rd,
Center Jones or Blake in the 4th,
WR in the 4th; Broyles, Jenkins, Adams or Hilton
NT Hebron Fangupo in the 5th
We need alot and there is no way we can get it all in one draft

Orton is a good backup that can win a game or two if the starter gets nicked up, but if Orton has to replace Romo for the season................game over.

Ummm....we haven't won that many playoff games with Romo....just saying.

If a dominant OL or DL prospect is available, since we have holes there too, I figure we will pull the trigger. We are dealing with a leader here though that has 2 national championship rings on his finger, who lead the best secondary in the nation.
I said prospect, cause you can be a great prospect but that doesn't make you a great NFL player. Thats the reason this is a crap shoot and also what makes it fun.
Instincts, passion, filmwork, fearlessness, and leadership is what I want out of safety among other things that are too long for me to type. If the FO thinks Barron has those types of things, pick the guy.

Yep.
We had the 4th best QB Rating in the NFL with nearly all of our skill positions suffering from injury at some point during the season.
And our defense had the 28th passer rating allowed in the NFL, with our key players (what few there are) staying incredibly lucky with injuries.
Clearly, we need to continue to improve our passing offense and ignore our passing defense.

The JEts really like Barron and Upshaw. Eagles also like Barron from what I hear as does Cincy, Tenn, and the Bears.
He may not be worth a #14 pick but I don't see him making it to 20-22. One of those teams will take him.
Same with Kirkpatrick and Gilmore. I don't think either ne will make it pass 23.

i doubt barron makes it out of the top20. If we want him just pick him at 14. The heck with value and crap. If you think he can be a impact/probowl player just take him. Lets not get cute and end up with another special teams draft

not when the qb can just throw the ball up and his wr still catches the ball I remember this happening too many times, calvin johnson, victor cruz or nicks (with scandrick lost looking for the ball in the air). Lets draft a safety that can actually make a impact. Not just be solid. Its a process .
