Default Jenkins Denies Continued Drug Use Reports

Jenkins Denies Continued Drug Use Reports

by Aaron Wilson

North Alabama cornerback Janoris Jenkins was dismissed from the University of Florida football program after three arrests: two possession of marijuana charges and another stemming from a bar fight.

However, Jenkins was emphatic in denying a report that he allegedly kept using marijuana after enrolling at North Alabama where he was subject to a zero-tolerance policy.

"I wasn't smoking marijuana at North Alabama," Jenkins said in a telephone interview. "If anybody wants to know, they can give my coaches a call. I wasn't partying. They've been saying a lot of things about me that aren't true without getting my side of the story. It's been a humbling experience.

"You've got to be a man, you've got to be honest and straightforward. I've matured. My past is my past. People can judge me for how far I've come. I want to know why all of a sudden this is out there about me. Why didn't it come out after the combine when I was straightforward with the scouts? The timing is very interesting to me."

Tony Pecoraro, Jenkins' defensive coordinator last season at North Alabama, backed up his player's story, saying the 23-year-old didn't violate a zero tolerance contract. The contract included random drug testing and a community service requirement.

"Of course, he got drug tested when he was there and he passed those tests," Pecoraro told Scout. "For him to get into school, our athletic director put in a bunch of stipulations and he had to do community service hours, do a mentoring program, take random drug tests. If anything had come back positive from those, he wouldn't have been out there.

So if...IF he is telling the truth...It would seem that some team is lying to the press to push the rumor that he admitted to still smoking in an interview with them.

It would be interesting if the media member who was told that would say what team the person worked for who told him that.

Hmmmmmmmm, very interesting

Definitely appears as though a team is trying to spread some rumors.

He has been upfront and honest thus far in the process, so to suddenly come out and lie after supposedly being too honest would be the biggest mistake and would not make any sense. I believe him on this one.

I would not take this kid higher then the 2nd round. He is going to come into the NFL with at least 1 strike against him. He has 1st round ability, no doubt about that but there is a good deal of risk involved here IMO.

This happens all of the time...

It's actually criminal because it is costing him money... pot stays in your system for over a month... if he was smoking, he would not have passed drug tests...

So if he is telling the truth he probably has jumped back into the late 1st - 2nd round.

How awesome would it be if he was telling the truth and took voluntary piss tests every week and dropped a fat stack of clean UAs on somebody?

Jenkins will probably be gone before the Boy's second pick but imagine a secondary with him and Carr at cornerback and Barron at safety.

What an improvement over last year! Our secondary would go from being one of the weakest parts of Dallas' game unto one of the strongest.

That could happen in a trade down scenario if we managed a very early 2nd and I mean like 33, 34 or 35.

Would be interesting to verify his side of the story with the records and dates of North Alabama's drug testing results. I would also like to know which team's representative released reports of him admitting to drug use. If his records verify that he was not using and this whole story was fabricated, punishments should be handed down by the league.

The Bills are not buying his story, they have removed him from their draft board.

SDogo, so realistically any chance the cowboys would draft him? It was mentioned earlier here but I would definitely not mind grabbing this kid in the second round, and drafting Barron with our first pick
