Woods' Final 2012 Mock Draft
Well ladies and gentlemen, here we go. The Big Day is nearly upon us. My final attempt at my final 2012 mock draft . . . .
Round 1
Mark Barron, S Alabama
I still think we have a shot at him at 14. I don't think Buffalo or Seattle pick him. Biggest concern is Philly leapfrogs us. But I think there is a decent shot he's there at 14. Barron's leadership, calling out the correct defensive signals, lining up the Secondary should help as much as his athletic abilities. He'll be the best Safety we've had since Woody.
Round 2
D Wolfe, DT Cinn
Wolfe has been steadily moving up the draft boards. I think he'll be a 2nd round pick, and I think we would have interest. Very productive, serious football player. Good athletic ability. Would add a lot to our rotation on the DL. Can't be single blocked with a TE. Led all DTs with 21.5 sacks for loss last season. Finishes the play. Explosive first step quickness. Has experience at NT in the nickel packages. Never lets down until the play is over. Was the Big East co-defensive player of the year. 2011 stats include 70 tackles, 21.5 TFL, 9.5 sacks, 2FF, 2FR.
Round 3
J Fleming, CB Okl
We've shown interest in Fleming as well. Good size weighing over 200lbs, was ranked 4th in the CB athletic rankings according to Ourlads' forumula (out of 35 players). SS was a very solid 3.97, 4.5 speed, physical, productive, and consistent.
Round 4
P Blake, OC Baylor
A potential starter for the Cowboys this season. 3-yr starter at Baylor, with 1 year at RT. Another "finisher" in terms of his style of play. Aggressive, can anchor bull rush, and he's got 33" inch arms (no more T-Rex). He will be a 26 yr old rookie, but we should still be able to get 6-8 good years out of him.
Round 4 Comp Pick
TY Hilton, WR/PR Florida International
Explosive, small wideout. He's only 5095 and weighs 185 lbs, but he is elusive and can make guys miss. He has good hands and will lay out for the ball. He's a slot guy and punt returner for the Cowboys. Hilton isn't in the typical mold of Cowboy wideouts who are over 6' tall, but between Austin, Dez, Holmes, and Radway we have that angle covered. I'm assuming Broyles is already gone by this pick.
Round 5
Tank Carder, IL TCU
Showed off his athleticism at the Combine, ranked 3/16 according to Ourlads. Intense, focused, good instincts and awareness. Nose for the ball. Gets depth in his pass drops and has good pattern and scheme recognition. Good coverage awareness. Will also play STs. In 2011 he had 70 tackles, 4.5 TFL, 3 PBU, and 2 Ints. Will add depth behind Lee and Carter.
Round 6
Tom Compton, OT South Dakota
6047, 312 lbs 4.94 40. A 2-yr starter at LT with excellent athletic ability. Ourlads number 1 rated OL athletically for the 2012 Combine. Arm length 34 7/8 and a 1.69 10 yard split. Good quickness on snap, good quick set up for pass, and maintains balance when sliding with man. Powerful on down blocks. Can pick up stunts and games. Has all the physical tools, just needs to upgrade his technique. He will provide good depth behind our OTs, push Parnell, and be a very good development prospect.
Round 7
George Bryan, TE N Carolina State
2 1/2 yr starter. Catches the ball well in a crowd. He is the all-time leader in TD receptions for NC State with 17. Has functional speed as a receiver, though he doesn't run well for a watch. Solid blocker, good concentration and hands. Plays on punt coverage team and wing on field goals and PATs. 2011 stats include 33-331 and 4 TDs. His production went down with QB Russell Wilson going to Wisconsin and Mike Glennon taking the reins. Heading into last fall, Bryan was a two-time All-ACC performer with 75 catches.
With respect to UDFAs, I would also look to pick up the following players, if available,
Drew Butler, Punter Georgia
GJ Kinne, QB Tulsa
JR Sweezy, DL No. Carolina State
Jeremy Lane, CB Northwestern State
Terrence Frederick, CB Texas A&M
Levy Adcock, OT Okl State

I'll take that draft in a heartbeat, Woods. In fact, I might do Hostile's chihuahua impersonation on the arm of my chair if it goes down like that.

I dunno...I'm thinking the original is scary enough. An impersonation might be enough to scar someone for life.

Looks good, it's either Barron or Brockers at 14, if neither is there they trade down and take either DeCastro or Konz. I know it's not what DeCastro fans want to hear nor Brockers critics to see but it's what it's going to be. I'm as sold now going into Wednesday as I have been or will be.

Ya know, Wulf, after reading your reply, saying that I'd be really happy with that draft just doesn't do it, somehow.

Any word on who the trade partner might be?

I like it. Wolfe and Flemming wouldn't be 1st choices at their respective positions, but everybody is going to have their own favorites.

It's a good effort Woods.
I would have liked to have seen an OLB picked who could potentially replace Spencer in 2013, but a good effort none-the-less.

Nice draft man. I like Barron at 14 if we do not make a move on Decastro. I don't think we let Decastro go by us but he may go before us. I posted Barron was our pick 2 months ago and was shredded by the forum saying he is Roy Williams! Now everyone loves him so I'm back on Decastro.
What's up with Tank Carder? Is he going make it or what? I had him on my mock at one time then read some real negative news. He's a great hitter, needs to be able to cover the TE's.

I dunno SDogo...DeCastro falls in our lap at 14 and we're going to trade away from a sure starter and gamble?

I'll be the most unpopular guy on this board, esp with hos but i have been talking to alot of people the last couple hours and DeCastro is simply a fall back plan. He is not a prospect we are conducting our draft for or making moves to accomodate. Dallas likes him but they have a value cutoff at 14, DeCastro is not making that first cut.

Good write-up. One of the better mocks I've seen, although I would be dissappointed if no OLBs are drafted.
I'm not gung-ho to take Barron at #14, but he's a safe pick that can contribute early.
Wolfe is a solid pick.
Fleming is physical with good agility. His un-official forty was 4.43.
Blake is very underrated, IMO. I think he can start day one. Mayock and Ourlands have him as the #2 Center.
If Broyles is gone, then I'm all-in on Hilton in the 4th.
I'm not sure if Carder is a good fit as a 3-4 ILB. I do like him in general.
Compton and Bryan are both good late round picks.
Good set of UDFAs also. It won't be pretty, but I think Levy Adcock will make an active roster somewhere.

Are you considering the smokescreen? I love Mark Barron but Decastro is will save Tony Romo's life, not to mention our redzone/goal line offense is terrible.

No, i dont have the name recognition nor the resources to waste time using me as a smokescreen. Also perhaps if my conversation was with anyone but this source i might say there was a slim chance.
