Default Kyle Wilber scouting report

6. Kyle Wilber Wake Forest 5.57 6-3 3/4 249 4.83

Notes:
Also participated in wrestling and weight lifting as a Florida prep. Redshirted in 2007. Played in all 13 contests in ’08, starting the final seven at defensive end, and recorded 42 tackles, 61⁄2 tackles for loss and three sacks with one pass defended. Had a two-yard fumble return for a score against Boston College. Recorded 18-3-1 with a blocked kick against Baylor in five games (four starts) in ’09. Fractured his left leg (fibula) against Stanford in the second game and missed the next seven weeks before returning for the final three games. Led the team in tackles for loss and sacks in ’10 after recording 65-14 1⁄2-6 with four passes batted down, three forced fumbles and two blocked kicks. Started all 12 games — eight at defensive end and four at outside linebacker after the Demon Deacons switched to a 3-4 defense with four games remaining. Racked up 70-11 1⁄2-3 1⁄2 with one pass breakup, three forced fumbles and a blocked kick in 13 starts at SLB in ’11.

Positives:
Very good athlete. Solid run defender — can play off blocks and string plays down to the sideline. Crashes the line and has surprising strength to set the edge. Solid technician — keeps his outside arm free. Good take-off speed. Can outquick blockers to the point and split the double team. Has lined up on both sides and is athletic enough to fall back into coverage and man short areas. Productive starter with scheme diversity.

Negatives:
Has a linear, underdeveloped body and can stand to improve his strength levels and explosion. Tends to play a bit too upright and has some stiffness in his body. Not a glass-eater and lacks bull, anchor strength. Struggles with double teams. Not an elite athlete. Not comfortable moving in reverse.

Summary:
A finesse rush linebacker who has lined up in even and odd fronts in college, Wilber possesses the length, athletic ability and surprising strength to rush on either side as a linebacker in a 3-4 front.

#Cowboys Rd.4No.113: LB - Kyle Wilber, SR, Wake Forest, 6036, 249, 4.86. Not as high on him as others are, too slow to play OLB in 3-4.

I think, Ronnell Lewis would have been better.

He sounds a lot like Anthony Spencer.

He is about the same size, was a college DE but a tweener OLB at this level, a good but not great athlete.

It sounds like he may have some upside if he can improve his strength a bit with Woicek and he has ideal size and length for the position.

I really had my hopes for Bruce Irvin, McClellin, Whitney or Branch bit I guess it wasn't in the cards for us.

some other sites, 4.78 in 40, decent speed for a player of his size, but not heavy built needs to get stronger, more of a move around player, line him up at OLB, rush him from inside etc..

He is apparently off our boards due to character issues.

He also probably isn't smart enough to play in our fronts.

A poor mans Aaron Curry and projected as high as rd 2 by some, and Rd3 by the rest, so there is some value here in the 4th.

We just need a few more sacks from different guys. We don't need superstars, just a few playmakers. We are one of the best sack teams in the league, but half of them come from Ware. Hopefully the last 2 picks net us 5-6 more sacks this season. Plus the upgraded secondary just gave the pass rush a few extra seconds. All the people crying for "building the trenches" and "establishing a pass rush" don't seem to be too happy.

How did his three cone compare to Spencers? 40 not as important.

yeah part i dont like he is a finese type LB, think we could have done better, but that coujld have been becaus he got hurt and came back early

does have long arms though to defend in passes and causes qb to not be able to get ball over him

but has dropped in coverages, very intelligent, can slip inside,

That was probably the key to his selection.

Can we Sticky this? Tired of seeing his name in every thread even though it was discussed awhile back that he was off our board.
"Can we get Drew Bledsoe back out here just for a week, so you guys can fall back in love with Tony? Let's sign Drew Bledsoe back for a week. Because sometimes when you have a pretty girl for so long, you forget how pretty she is. But when you put an ugly girl next to her, 'Oh, no, I'm really doing well.' And maybe we need to bring Drew back, so we can back to 'Oh, no, we're really doing well.'"
