Your first 2 first round picks were spent on 2 of these 3 positions-- OLB, WR or OL... so now, you're looking to shore up either FS or CB... to me, here are your options:

Carlos Rogers, CB, Auburn... 6-1, 195 pounds, 4.45 40...

Corey Webster, CB LSU... 6-0, 200 pounds, 4.45 40...

Problem is, both of these DBs might be off the board at this point...

Antonio Perkins, CB/KR, Oklahoma... 5-11, 195 pounds, 4.35 40...

Ernest Shazor, FS, Michigan... 6-4, 225 pounds, 4.45 40...

Jason Allen, FS/CB, Tennessee... 6-2, 200 pounds, 4.4 40...

Brandon Browner, CB/FS, Oregon State... 6-4, 205 pounds, 4.45 40...

James Butler, FS, Georgia Tech... 6-3, 210 pounds, 4.5 40...

Sleeper-- Ronald Bartell, CB, Howard... 6-2, 205 pounds, 4.4 40...

If the call was mine, at the moment I'm quite intrigued with Brandon Browner... I'd be interested to see who from ths group (or perhaps somebody outside of this group), y'all might like to see drafted...

All of these players have the size to play against the new breed of jumbo wideouts, and the speed to play in the NFL... clearly, there will be excellent value at DB available in the second round, which further justifies Parcells' insinuation that he won't look for a CB in the first round...

The fact that Browner didn't intercept a single pass this season is a concern. I'd take a serious look at Allen, who led Tennessee in tackles, had two picks and two sacks, supposedly runs a 4.4 and could play cornerback. I'd try him at the non-Roy safety, whatever position we're calling it these days.

Yeah, but I find myself wondering if that's an indication that opponents avoided throwing the ball in his direction...

He was a CB until this year, and like you said, he had 123 tackles this year... that's a bunch for a DB...

What about Justin Miller (CB, Clemson) and Adam Jones (CB, West VA)? Are you putting them ahead of Rogers and Webster?

I think I'd be ok with anyone on that list except Perkins. I personally don't like CB coming out of conferences that don't throw the ball. It's not true as much as it once was, but the Big 12 is still a weak test for a CB, IMO.

The various mocks seem to be all over the board as to where he'll go, but I think you're probably right... same with Webster, I wouldn't be shocked if he went in the first round or very early in the second...

I just included them on the off chance they might slip some... given the depth of this DB class, teams might not feel the need to start a run on them, which might lead to some good players slipping...

Obviously, Antrel Rolle and Marlin Jackson are gonna be first rounders, but I could envision a scenario in which they turned out to be the only 2 DBs drafted in the first...

I don't care much for either one of them... as for Perkins, I'm intrigued by his speed, and his abilities as a KR... I mean, it's been 2 years since we had a punt or kick returner take one all the way (exempting that freak play by Randal Williams on an onsides kick), so it would be nice to bring a threat at that position, too...

Now, I have heard folks express concerns about his cover skills being rather pedestrian, and I am just beginning to "scout" these players...

My concern with Allen is that Tennessee's history of producing cornerbacks has been spotty in recent years. Granted, it's not entirely fair to judge Allen on past failures, but it seems this measuring stick is often used at a number of positions.

Granted, Tennessee has had some quality safeties at this level (Gibril Wilson, Deon Grant), so maybe Allen isn't such a bad prospect there.

Allen played safety this season.

If we don't get a cornerback in the first round, I'm not sure I'd even draft one at all. Maybe in the second, but probably not after that. We already have a boatload of young guys, so we don't really need to add any more mid-round rookies. If we don't get a top-notch corner in the draft, I'd rather find someone in free agency.

James Butler at FS without a doubt.
IMO Perkins is a better KR than a CB.
I love Shazor but he's another SS. His 6'4 height is enticing but I'm not sure how well he can cover. He's a playmaker too.

Shazor is entering the draft and has signed with an agent.

Of course, he's a SS, not the non-Roy position we need.

please scratch Perkins off that list...if he's taken in the 2nd rd by anyone, its because of his return ability...the guy looked like a terrible cover CB to me in the games I saw...I wouldnt be surprised if he is available on day two because he is a major project as a CB

Assuming my guesstimate and rankings hold we'd be looking at Perkins, Shazor or Allen. Perkins could be quite interesting IMHO. He's certinaly fast enough to cover guys and he has a great deal of skill when he gets the ball in his hands. All that being said, I don't know if we are going to look CB day 1. I really expect us to try and improve the pass rush, safety play and then see if Frazier, Hunter, Thornton can hold down that RCB job. If we don't think any of those 3 can do the job then I suspect BP will remedy that for sure with a free agent.

I really like both Allen and Shazor quite a bit at the free safety opposite RW. Shazor may be more like RW as a great tackler and run support guy tho so Allen might be the better fit here.
