Default FWST:Dan Connor listed ahead of Bruce Carter on Cowboys' first unofficial depth chart

The Cowboys released their first unofficial depth chart in advance of Monday's preseason opener against the Raiders. Among the notable listing was Dan Connor down with the first team at inside linebacker opposite Sean Lee instead of Bruce Carter.

He might be listed higher than Carter, but I bet when all is said and done, they'll get a real similar amount of reps, especially if Carter looks good in coverage, which it seems like he has so far.

Usually on Cowboys home website, I haven't looked to see if it's been updated to this latest list mentioned.

I wouldn't put too much stock into what that depth chart says based on where they had some players listed.

I'm thinking the coaches want to give Bruce Carter all of the playing time possible. Connor has 4 years in the NFL and game film of the coaches to know exactly what they have in him. Carter can take advantage of the extra reps.
"It's little bit like the description of pornography from years back. It's hard to define it. But you know what it is at the end of it. It's hard to define it. I think you know who is more physical. Often times you see that in the fourth quarter. A lot of time the team on the other side feels it. We pride ourselves on being a physical football team. It's important to us. It's an important time of the year to lay that foundation." - Coach Garrett

As expected from the moment they signed Connor. Had Carter exhibited any sign of being ready I kind of doubt Connor would be Cowboy.

Eh...Carter missed half the season last year and was really only able to contribute sparingly because of that. Connor was signed before OTA's so it was more of a contingency plan and to provide competition/depth at a position of need moreso than a testament to what they think of Carter. I think they fully expect Carter to win the position.

When two players are basically even, the nod on the depth chart goes to the veteran in most cases. It really means nothing at this point. They will both get reps with the first team in preseason games and hopefully a real starter will emerge.

Default I figured Lee and Conner were the Starters and

I expect that on opening night but I think Conner and Carter will be very close in plays played.

I really don't think the coaches give input on the website's depth chart if that's what Calvin Hill is going by. I think it's more of someone on the dc.com staff that does it on their own from what they see.
