ESPND: Matchup to watch: Marshawn Lynch vs. Cowboys defensive front

By Calvin Watkins | ESPNDallas.com
The Cowboys take on one of the better running backs in the league in their Week 2 contest at Seattle.
Running back Marshawn Lynch (5-11, 215) makes it hard for defenders to bring him down with arm tackles, and defenses must gang tackle him.
Outside linebacker Anthony Spencer said that was a major point of emphasis this week in practice: Getting to the ball carrier. In Seattle's Week 1 loss to Arizona, Lynch rushed 21 times for 85 yards. With Seattle starting a rookie at quarterback and with two nicked up receivers, the Seahawks will need Lynch to get about 18 to 20 carries Sunday afternoon.
"He's not going to let anyone arm tackle him or one person bring him down," Spencer said. "You see that on film all the time. Even after contact, he’s still running and trying to run through people even guys, 300 pound guys, have him wrapped up. We know we have to get after him and get everybody to the ball."

Kind of surprised this thread hasn't gotten any traffic. Maybe most are like me and think the run D will be stout.
Did you know there are only 5000 Snow Leopards in the wild now and they are confined to Central Asia? However, the effective global population (those likely to reproduce) is less than half that number.

I am so utterly and completely confident that the Cowboys D will completely and utterly shut down Russell Wilson that I am just not worried about the run D.
Cowboys effectively shut down Eli with two Pro-Bowl type recievers. Seattle has a rookie QB and two nothings at WR.
It's absolutely positively impossible the Cowboys will lose.

One thing that should mitigate Lynch's impact is he's been having back troubles. Even if he's fully healthy, our run D is plenty stout and every indication suggests the Cowboys are game planning to keep ML in check.
And even though Ratliff will be out, Brent/Lissemore will do a good job filling in for him at NT on our D-front. Plus, add OLBs Ware and Spencer and MLBs Lee and Carter/Connor in run support... we'll be up to the challenge.

Lynch better be ready to face 8 men in the box. If he doesn't get it, the extra guy will be coming after the rook.
This is a team who is battling several major injuries to
key players including Pro Bowl talents like Lee, Austin, Jenkins, Murray,
Carter and Ratliff. Other key starters missing include Costa, Smith, Church and
Coleman. That is 11 key players - that's half the starting lineup. Yet we still went 8-8.

In 2011, Lynch finished third in the league with 19 broken tackles -- three more than 2010 when he finished with 16
|
This seems incredibly low for a 16 game season. That's just over 1 broken tackle per game.
Seems like Murray breaks about 5 tackles per game (not always leading to big yardage, but still broken tackles none the less).

yeah those break tackle stats seem low. lol. You would think he would of broke more than that. I guess they count broken tackles as a guy had 2 arms around him and he broke out or something like that

Still left to accomplish:
sign OT Winston or G Moore

Well, we all know who won this match up.
Can't believe a rookie QB carved us up like a Thanksgiving turkey ... and it ain't even November yet.

Exactly. Who needs high draft picks on the DL? Old and broken band-aids like Coleman and Spears and 20th round backups like Brent and Lissemore are all you really need. And that Hatcher, he has a world of unrealized potential we should finally tap by his 10th or 11th year. He was almost drafted by the Patriots, y'know [/wink]. And this guy here on the sidelines nursing his latest injury, Ratliff, he's All-Pro.
And who needs to really block on offense when we have Tony Romo? Romo can block for himself. Doug Free is a stud. He's highly paid, so he's gotta be, right?
