A little what if on the Tate block
There seems to be a lot of "that's the real football" support for the play, well...
What if?
At the last second Lee saw it coming and braced? What could have happened to Tate if instead of a relaxed target he hit a 250 lb player on his feet delivering a hit of his own?
Just a week or so ago a college player nearly died on the field. There have been many players who had their lives changed forever.
What if?
At the last split second Lee could react but not brace,so he lowered his head? Instead of a blow to the chest that slid up, he took it straight to the head or face?
Many of us have been fans for a long time but the game and players have evolved. We have backs and receivers that are as big...or bigger...than LBs of old. Linebackers are as big...or bigger...than the linemen of the past. And all of them are faster than their counterparts of old.
Bigger and faster means more energy transferred. And the greater risk of serious injury.

what if Dez threw that block? It would have been a great block and the rule would be stupid.

Sorry but I for one do not glorify a blatant cheap shot that was delivered in a way that could have been season, career or even life threatening for both players.

I like this thread, OP, and I see where you're coming from. I am sorry it ended up being full of criticism for your posting of it rather than seriously talking about the topic. Most threads end up like that now.
I think it would have been better if Sean Lee had been able to square up and take the hit, because he is a more skilled tackler with proper form. Nothing would have happened other than the two getting locked up or Lee actually knocking Tate to the ground in a safer way. It would have been less dangerous than what actually happened.
As far as Lee maybe lowering his head, well, let's just be thankful that didn't happen. I think we might have been looking at the end or a career, or at least the end of a season, on that one.

But Mike that is football. Lee understands that when he walks out onto the field, right? I mean that's what some are trying to say.
