Default FWST: Cowboys give, but don't take with minus-7 turnover margin

IRVING -- After new cornerback Brandon Carr had two interceptions of San Diego Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers in the second preseason game, the Dallas Cowboys had visions of grandeur. Finally, they believed, they had a defense that would play takeaway.

But it hasn't worked out that way so far.

The Cowboys have only four takeaways -- one interception and three fumble recoveries -- and one of those came on special teams.

Only three NFL teams have fewer forced turnovers. The Oakland Raiders, the Detroit Lions and the Indianapolis Colts -- all of whom, like the Cowboys, have had their open-date week -- have only three.

"I guess it's a personal challenge that each one of us has to accept," Carr said Monday. "You have to challenge yourself to put it upon yourself, within the scheme of our defense, to go out there, and you be the one to make that play; you be the one to make the difference for the defense.
