Anyone remember the Amanda Todd Youtube video about her being bullied for a mistake she made?

Well, it seems she has now committed suicide.

I guess I don't understand why police couldn't get to this guy. I don't know the Canadian laws but if this guy was an adult, couldn't he be charged with having a partially nude pic of an underage girl?

If people only new what kind of impact they have with their words. Nobody should ever go through what this poor girl went through. I would of stood up for her, I have no idea why other people wouldnt....

Our society has no problem with shaming people. This case is a little different because it's bullyish in nature and done to a kid.

Still though, perhaps we should look at ourselves as part of the problem before assuming it's just certain people who do these kinds of things.

I really don't understand bullying but it has gone on for as long as I can remember. It's just magnified by the internet now.

It is certain people. Whoever it was tried to blackmail her into more sexual conduct. I'm sure if she fully complied at some point it could have easily become physical.

This guy's mental make up is clearly rapist material. They should hunt this scumbag down.

I don't agree with that as a whole though. Incidents like this are just the more visible ones. Our society simply doesn't look at shaming and embarrassing people as much of a problem. It has just now gotten to that point these past few years due to teen suicide.

That guy should absolutely be in prison.

I usually don't feel a ton of pity for people in this situation, but this is a gut wrencher. So many things/people that could have happened to save this girl. A real shame.

As for lessons to be learned...no girl under 18 should EVER have a web cam. FB is bad enough for teens.

I will never understand why we, as a society, push and advertise stuff like this when it can have such negative effects on our children. So much of the music, TV and movies are trash for kids.

We should be keeping them from stuff like this at all costs.

Instead we spash it in their face and then have remorse when it turns out bad like this.

It's a difficult balance when your country is based on freedom and the premise that all men are created equal. You can't just take peoples freedoms away because you don't like them. The only way this happens is if it is having a serious negative impact on society. The question is determining what is considered serious enough to impede everyone's freedom?

It' not that I don't like them, it is that it is so destructive to our kids.

One girl kills herself because of ridicule on Facebook.
One boy ruins his life with alcohol.
One dad tears his family apart with gambling addiction.

One is too many for me.

I could live without things that I am free to do, if it saved other peoples lives. I would find something else to do.

I guess it is open to interpretation if a young girl dying, or lives being ruined because of alcohol or gambling is serious enough to impede everyone's freedom.

Let's replace negative, destructive things with other more positive things. Everyone would get over it.

I'm off of my soapbox now, .. I just get sick of kids lives being broken into pieces because of things we have given them to play with.

We should better protect our young people, heck even our young adults.
