How exactly did they wizz all over it? Is the iPad 3 suddenly less functional? Are there things you can do with the new one you can't with the previous model? There are some nice spec bumps and the addition of the new lightning port, but your life is not in shambles if you are 'stuck' with the iPad 3.

Definitely something odd in the perspective of that image. As if it were taken with a wide angle lens or something.

A bit defensive aren't we? He is poking fun at a phenomenon that comes with any technology. Someone buys a product and days later a new version comes out.

If you think he is *just* picking on Apple, you should try the Android market. There isn't a single company putting a single phone putting out every year or two. 50+ new Android phones come out every year! My Galaxy Nexus isn't a year old and the Galaxy S III and Galaxy Note 2 are both newer and probably better than it in some way.

It's shot with a wide angle. What's throwing you off is the perspective and the tilt of the image. The fact that the ceiling is barreled adds to the confusion when you look at it. Lemme 'splain a bit further because it's an optical illusion.

Because of the negative space at view right, i.e. the grey board, you're looking at the image and you're mind is judging that the center point is the top brass/copper button on the inside of the guy's jacket who is cut in half by the computer.

Now because of that, you're looking at the back of the computer that is curved, follow it up, and the next lines above are the curved lines of the ceiling in the background. Because the image is tilted to the left, you get a feeling that the image is shot like a fish eye which isn't the case. It's just a few lines in the image coming together to make it appear fish eyed.

I'd be willing to wager that if you take a ruler/business card and line it up on the edges of the table that the table's edges are perfectly straight. Same with the fluorescent light fixtures in the background.

It's pretty but I question the practicality of a super slim, stationary machine. I'd take upgradeability, power and speed over a slimmer body anyday.

I have an iMac from 2009 and I had been waiting for a new iMac or Mac Pro to upgrade, I'm going to keep right on waiting for the Mac Pro.

I haven't used my dvd-drive in ages.
We need wins, and that's all we need. I don't give a damn about anyone on this roster over wins. I'd trade Ware, Lee and Dez if it meant more wins.

That new iMac has me at full salute in the shorts.

I've been eyeballing a new one for a while but my current one works well enough to where I haven't been that motivated.

Well you know how practical it will be if you already have an iMac. I don't do anything heavy on a computer where I need all of that power. I'd much prefer something that takes up less space and can still have some power.

As far as upgrading goes, the only thing I think most users ever need to upgrade is memory. That's as easy as unscrewing a small part on the bottom and taking the old memory out and putting the new memory in. They've made it very easy for you. I've done it and it makes a big difference. Next iMac I buy I'll make sure it has 4 slots instead of 2 though.

Is your iMac the 27" ? I bought my iMac like 2-4 months before they came out with that. I can't even begin to describe how pissed I was.

DVD drives have three main uses today and one of them is almost obsolete today.
  1. Data backup. (back up to a disk)
  2. Operating System Installation
  3. Program Installation.

#3 is almost obsolete since you can download many apps today. Companies like Steam make it so you never have to buy a physical CD/DVD for a game anymore. Blizzard too.

As for data backup, the Internet is solving that too with several methods of backup from Dropbox to Google Drive.

All that is left is Operating Systems and even though can be done over the Internet as long as you have some form of initial boot beyond the hard drive. Well, at least with Linux. (USB drive, or even in some cases a USB DVD drive)

I own a USB DVD drive for OS installation only really. I'm greatfully to have it just in case I need it for other reasons later on.

I also own an IBM USB floppy drive that is bootable (not all are) that I've had for 4 years and have NEVER used. I own it because when I bought it there were some very real reason to own it. (install Win XP, but need a driver for a disk. A floppy was the ONLY way to install the drivers if the CD didn't already have the driver)

I think the price for the 21 inch is the same as it was about 5 years ago when I bought mine.

From what I have seen, Apple has a set price when their products enter the market and they kind of keep that set price for future models of the same size.

Is the price high when they enter? Different question and the answer is "yes".

lol. No. Apple is about every penny they can get and everyone and their mother knows this. If the price is the same it's only because they couldn't hose their customers for more money without a severe backlash. (see the 7" iPad price announcement today)

Let's not get stupid here. Since Apples resurgence, they have done nothing, but over price their products because they knew they could fleece their customers. To say otherwise would make you either an Apple tool, or a damn fool. (same ****, different name)

Apple is in danger of overplaying their hands here. $329 for the mini without retina display is a joke, pure and simple. Anyone who buys it is a darn fool. And I know an awful lot of people that are mad about the fact that the iPad4 is coming out so soon after the iPad3.

And as far as those gadgets go, I'm an Apple-phile. But today really turned me off.

Considering...

1) That stupid new "lightning" cable with got a lot of people angry
2) Their faulty new maps app which got a lot of people angry
3) The iPad4 coming out so soon after the iPad3 which got a lot of people angry, and
4) The iPad Mini which is being met with a collective yawn

Apple has finally out-Microsoft'd Microsoft. They have now become the very same company that they all used to make fun of back in the 90's.

$1700 for a MacBook is just as bad...$1850 after taxes here in AZ...ridiculous, for a freaking' laptop!?!

2 years ago I bought a brand new Toshiba with an i5 processor, 2.53 GHz, 750 gb HD, 8GB RAM for $825 after taxes at Best Buy.

So what are you disagreeing with exactly?

I said they enter the market at a high price.......and then a I said they usually stick at that price for the same model moving into the future, which is true.

Did I not word it derogatory enough for your liking?
