DMN: Will Cowboys make any moves at trade deadline? Stephen Jones: ‘I don’t think so’

IRVING — The NFL trade deadline was moved back to Thursday because of Hurricane Sandy, giving teams two additional days to negotiate.
So, will the Cowboys be making any moves between now and 3 p.m. (CST) on Nov. 1?
When asked that question on Wednesday, Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones responded: “I don’t think so.”
“Everybody believes they’re right around the corner to breaking even and maybe getting a little bit ahead of it,” Jones said during his weekly appearance on 105.3 The Fan [KRLD-FM]. “So no one really wants to part with somebody that they think can help them win this year. We’re the same way. You want to make sure that you have your depth. This day and time … after you get through the top echelon of starters and really top backups, which most people won’t part with, then everybody starts to get pretty even. We’re trading a guy for your guy … but they’re not difference makers. Everybody’s looking for somebody that’ll really help their team and unfortunately there’s not many guys like that out there.

That is why the NFL trade dead line should still be pushed out by about 2-3 more weeks.
Then we will have teams at 3-5 3-6 etc and willing to make changes because they are in a bigger bind

The only move I would make if one were to be made, would be a move to accumulate more picks because we need'em.

I get what Stephen is saying, but when you see the good job we do with street free agents, you've got to figure we could probably do a similar job with that next level of talent, too. Unless the reason we do well with the street guys isn't an advantage when it comes to roster players because it would amount to tampering...
When asked whether Jason Garrett is the right head coach for this team: "I don't think there is anyone else that could. I think he is an unbelievable coach. We've responded to him and he has made us better football players, better people. If you watch us I think we play with a certain relentless spirit." --Sean Lee

Picks won't do any good if we're not able to keep the players we've got from turning over the ball.

FYI, mid-season trades in the NFL are extremely rare.
This isn't baseball.
