Well, there were the rebuilding years that were pretty tough, but you got a sense from the beginning that Jimmy was going to do everything he could to re-constitute the team or die trying. A lot of ups and downs, but an almost win at all cost feeling that pervaded the Johnson years - football first.

There were glimpses of that during BP's tenure IMO, but in the post cap era, the talent deficit that Jerry had created was harder to overcome, and you never got the sense that Bill had the same degree of latitude as Jimmy did.

The other 5 coaches since Jimmy (grateful as they were to have HC jobs), seemed to have one primary qualification: they were all very willing to sit passively in the back seat while Jerry commanded the ship, and I think that the players have reacted accordingly.

As a Cowboys fan you'll be in the minority as far as wanting to see this. I would suspect that you didn't have the pleasure of experiencing his time here. I plan on recording and archiving it to DVD.

There's no sport that captures or exalts it's history better than the NFL.

That's pretty much where I'm at. I'm to the point where I'm almost rejecting our past because it only illustrates how far we have fallen.

If this was just a case of having the right structure but hiring the wrong people that would be one thing. But we aren't even structured properly. The decline of the Cowboys didn't have to happen. It doesn't have to continue. All it takes is one man to set his ego aside and they can be great again. That's what's so aggravating. One guy's ridiculously large ego has caused all this and there is no light at the end of the tunnel. No foreseeable way out of it.

What the heck's wrong with just being a great Owner and racking up hardware? I'm pretty sure the fan base would worship you in that role, if credit and attention is what you seek.

It's not like we're asking Jerry to give up ownership, go ahead and be the owner, we just want a GM that's all.

If it doesn't work out, fire him and move on to the next one. He'd get so much more respect if he did at least that. I know, it'll never happen while Jerry is still alive though.

I at least know as a fan that Jerry is the problem. A lot of fans won't agree, but they're the ones who don't have a clue or don't care to see things the right way.

How did we ever win with Landry?

There are dozens of ways to be a successful coach. That style is what worked for Jimmy.

Kidding aside, I get your point but do you think Landry would put up with the penalties, turnovers, lack of accountability that we see in today’s Cowboys? IMO this team needs someone pushing them and holding them accountable and unfortunately I do not see that in Garrett, hope I´m wrong.

Until we see the practices and film sessions there is no way to assume he and hsi staff aren't working to fix the penalties.

3 last game by the way. I'd take 6 more if they replaced the turnovers.

In the NFL Network special Drew Pearson said after they would win Coach Landry would still get on them..he said you wondered did we just lose that game? He said he had a way about him that none of them wanted to be the guy that let the coach down.

I would think a lot of that attitude was the same with Jimmy.

Not really. Two totally different styles. With Jimmy, you might be wondering if you still had a job if you let him down too often. He certainly wouldn't keep trotting you out there if you're screwing up.
