Terrence Murphy, WR, Texas A&M
Height: 6:00.7 Weight: 202

Overview: The two-time team captain and member of the squad's Leadership Council was a "coach on the field" for the young Texas A&M offense in 2004. One of the team's finest athletes, Murphy earned 4x4 and Aggie Elite status during the offseason training program and set a school conditioning record with a 41.5-inch vertical leap. Murphy was named Offensive Most Valuable Player in District 15-4A as a quarterback at Chapel Hill High School. He passed for 1,149 yards and 11 touchdowns while completing 65 of 158 passes and also rushed for 512 yards and seven touchdowns on 92 carries as a senior. Murphy burst on to the Texas A&M scene, setting a freshman record with 36 receptions, good for 518 yards (14.4 avg) and three touchdowns in 2001. He played in the final eleven games of the 2002 season, starting three contests. Murphy totaled 599 yards on 36 catches (16.6 avg) and four scores that year. Murphy manned the "Z" receiver slot as a junior while also serving as squad captain. He snatched 44 passes for 762 yards (17.3 avg), but did not have a scoring catch. He did run for a touchdown on ten carries for 150 yards and took over kickoff return chores, totaling 626 yards on 23 attempts (27.2 avg). He missed the 2004 Clemson game after suffering a slight concussion vs. Wyoming, but still managed to catch a career-high 56 passes for 721 yards (12.9 avg) and three touchdowns in 2004. The second-team All-Big Twelve Conference choice also gained 116 yards on seven kickoff returns (16.6 avg) and 31 yards on four carries. Murphy finished his career with 29 starts in 45 games. He caught 172 passes for 2,600 yards (15.1 avg) and ten touchdowns. He shattered the previous school career records of 117 receptions for 1,740 yards by Bethel Johnson (1999-2002). Murphy also gained 209 yards on 17 carries (12.3 avg) with a score and returned 31 kickoffs for 761 yards (24.5 avg). Only Carl Roaches (1,087, 1972-75), Leeland McElroy (1,099, 1993-95) and Rod Harris (1,209, 1985-88) had more yards on kickoff returns in a career at Texas A&M.

Analysis: Positives...Has adequate height, but shows good overall muscle tone, good bubble and thighs and trim waist...Shows quick acceleration and thrust off the line of scrimmage and is learning how to use that speed to burst into his routes...Uses his head and shoulder fakes, along with a high release to make quick cuts in attempts to avoid the jam...A good threat on underneath routes, as he is effective at finding the seam...His speed and body control allow him to run by defenders on long routes...Can run, jump and adjust to the ball in flight...Shows good acceleration after the catch and enough elusiveness to avoid arm tackles...Efficient utilizing his second gear on vertical routes...shows good urgency getting to the ball in traffic...Has the strength to break tackles and is not easy to knock down...Willing blocker who shows some snap in his hips.

Negatives...Needs route refinement, as he rounds his cuts and takes a soft angle approach to the ball...Not a polished receiver, as he will extend for the ball, but is prone to double catches...Appears aware of coverage, but does a marginal job of uncovering and settling into the soft spot of the zone...Does not sell his route and fails to set up the defenders...Needs to secure the ball better before turning up field, as most of his bobbles have resulted in him fighting for the ball (six of his nine fumbles led to opposition scores)...Does not have the ideal size to be effective as a vertical receiver.

Agility tests: CAMPUS-- 4.44 in the 40-yard dash...360-pound bench press...460-pound squat...324-pound power clean...40-inch vertical jump. COMBINE-- 4.39 in the 40-yard dash...2.54 20-yard dash...1.54 10-yard dash.31 5/8-inch arm length...9 3/8-inch hands...15 Wonderlic score.

High school: Attended Chapel Hill (Tyler, Tex.) High School, playing football for Coach Darold Turner... Earned Offensive Most Valuable Player honors in District 15-4A at quarterback while passing for 1,149 yards and 11 touchdowns and completing 65 of 158 passes...Also rushed for 512 yards and seven touchdowns on 92 carries as a senior.

Personal: Agricultural Development major...Son of Brenda Guthrie...Born Terrence Cardene Murphy on 12/15/82...Resides in Tyler, Texas.

that gives them 2 tamu WRs.

great value here.
how many wrs are they gonna draft?
rodgers should be quite happy. that team is built for offense.
But I still don't know what any team saw Thursday night that would have made them comfortable with waiting a round or two for the offensive lineman they wanted. ---Todd McShay
We just converted half our LB to DL. We have a 30m starting DL, it better be pretty friggin good.

Exactly...they have the NFL's 4th ranked offense, and the NFL's 25th ranked defense.

They lost Darren Sharper and their defense basically sucks and they pick a QB and a WR, something they don't need.

They could of had Crowder, which would help because Barnett could move back outside where he was a force in 2003, or CB Justin Miller.

The Packers went into the draft needing DT, DE, S, CB, ILB and they choose a WR and a QB.

Packer fans can't be happy.

There is no way to argue against selecting a QB. Favre should retire but they have nothing behind him so beg him to stay. Getting the 2nd QB in this draft with pick 24 was excellent.

Now the WR was clearly a case of BPA ignoring need because they have a hole on every aspect of that defense and need about 3 OL.
