Default Creative Solution to a TV problem

I need some suggestions. I'm cheap and need a platform to put a new tv on. I want to put the TV on top of my dresser but need to lift it about 2-3 inches up so I can leave my Xbox and Cable box on the dresser. I was thinking of trying to find a cool stone slab that was about 25" long and 12" wide with a flat top. Apparently, those can be pricey, and as I mentioned I'm cheap.

Any suggestions or resourceful ideas would be much appreciated. I don't want it to look cheap either.

Go....

You can go a million different routes here. Depends on your tastes though. My sister asked me to do the same thing with the television in her bedroom. She has expensive tastes (I.e. Restoration Hardware), but I managed to make a reclaimed wood stand for her for under $20 that she loves.

Try looking on DIY (or places like etsy) sites for ideas and Craigslist for cheap materials. Stone would be very cool...you could try asking stonemasons, landscapers, or contractors for scraps.

Also, remember to give at least 1.5" of clearance over your Xbox and cable box for cooling purposes.

That's a really good idea! I'm going to check out some DIY sites. I have a list of a few stonemasons that I'll reach out to this week but I have a feeling they will charge a lot. That's why I'm looking into some alternatives.

Restoration Hardware is awesome by the way. Good for your sister!

How big is the TV and is it a flatscreen?

There are some pretty cheap wall mount options if you can do it yourself. Prob less than 50 bucks but make sure it is in the stud.

Yeah, hanging it on the wall isn't an option right now though. I wish it was to take advantage of the slimness

And here I thought I'd see you say something like use some old iPads or some sort of beat up Apple product. I wasn't even close.

That might work. I'd have to cut them so it's not too high. Thanks!

Find a company that does kitchen counters and see if you can get some remnants. Sounds like it might give you what you are looking for and may not cost a lot.

Who cares about Apple? Jobs is dead, their stock is down 25% from its high, they are losing market share, they are releasing subpar products (iPad Mini), they can't keep up with Android's innovation, they are losing lawsuits world wide except their one win over Samsung here in the US which sound like it's about to get dismissed for a re-trial (which if it isn't will likely get mostly overturned via appeal) which I'm pretty sure they won't win again anyhow.

Apple's *owners* had better start siphoning that money out of the company now, otherwise they will end up like Sun Microsystems. Living on their money until it runs out and then selling a multi-billion dollar company with incredibly valuable property for next to nothing.

I see what you did there! Clever! I'm just hoping you know I was screwing around.
