This secondary isn't going to see major improvement unless we put a big time player at safety. Peprah is going to start from here on out so that will help a little but Church has to be all he's cracked up to be and more to be the big time play making safety I want I this D

We didn't trade away our #1. Why do so many people get this wrong?
This is a team who is battling several major injuries to
key players including Pro Bowl talents like Lee, Austin, Jenkins, Murray,
Carter and Ratliff. Other key starters missing include Costa, Smith, Church and
Coleman. That is 11 key players - that's half the starting lineup. Yet we still went 8-8.

What are you talking about our starting saftey who was playing well is out for season. Also a lot of games this offense stalls early with the defense on the field. This def is clearly better then last year. Last week the defense kept us in the game and held Cleveland from scoring until late but if they didn't stop them out the box in second half we wouldn't have had a chance to win a game were the offense was horrible! Wake up ok

I really don't know. Mark Barron would have fit nicely and we had a NFL starting corner #21 already. Too many holes to fill to be going after another corner.

I'm never a fan of trading up for a player UNLESS it's a QB that you are absolutely sold on.

trading up INTO the top 10 (from below #10) should only be done for:
1. QB
2. LT
3. Front 7 pressure player that is once in a lifetime
CBs do not justify this sort of investment

I wonder if Jenkins could be a force in tackling in Pop Warner.
Sorry, his one season in the sun isn't enough to convince me he will play the game and not make a business decision on every tackle.
Mo stuck his head in yesterday and lost his helmet.
That was more than Jenks has done in the time he's been here.

Better question.... why is a cornerback who is under 6 feet tall that runs a ~4.4-4.5 40 and isn't the greatest tackler the #2 ranked player on their board over one of Luck or RG3?
40 yard times get bashed all the time but for a CB it actually matters. I and many others see Claiborne lazily trailing receivers all the time. It only gets worse as you get older and this guy is supposed to be a cornerstone of our defense for years with our investment in him. He's good.. but #2 on the draft board good...? Patrick Peterson is the type of elite athlete I'd like to see that high in the draft regardless of whether he's having trouble with the mental aspect of the game or his ball skills aren't the greatest.

I think it will be worth it, in the long run
Really, who were we going to pick at 14 that would've made a difference on this team?
Brockers was the guy they were targeting. Would he have had a bigger impact than Claiborne? Short and long term?
It's easy to cherry pick better players now, but at the time of the draft, it was either go up and get an elite player or stay put and get a good one.

This. They should have taken an OL.

I think it's pretty sure we would have drafted Miichael Brockers, the DE from LSU

maybe in a few years it may pan out as a good move. But for this year, there were more pressing needs than spending your wad on 2 cbs. Even if Brockers would have been the pick, he may have been out JJ Watt in this scheme. Maybe trade to the late teens and pick up an extra 2nd rounder and address other needs such as safety or OL. Maybe it would have proven that Brockers would have made the difference in our pass rush that we wouldn't have need to spend so many resources at CB.
WE WILL SEE.

we could have traded down and picked up another #2 and still taked DeCastro
now you have DeCastro and 2 round 2 picks that you can use to address needs like NT, CB, safety more OL

It takes two to tango. I could be mistaken, but I don't believe any team ahead of the Steelers traded up to the early/mid-teens where our original pick was. My guess is it would have been tough to find a taker to was willing to give up a second round pick to move up for a higher first round pick in that neighborhood. If there was a team picking in the early twenties who had their eye one a specific player in that range they likely would have found a trade partner and made it happen.
