No, they shouldn't. Alex SMith is a game manager, not a game changer. He's only good in the West Coast offense because his lack of arm strength really limits him. He's smart, but unless you have a great defense and good weapons around him on offense, you don't even have a shot to win.

I think that Smith is nothing more than a Trent Dilfer type game manager. Him being gone will probably really increase the threat of Crabtree.

Yup & I would punch him so he can see real stars! lol
Here where I'm from near SF, I get to hear all these Sperm Fairies rants about how they wish Kaepernick would start (Before Alex was benched). Because they know that A.Smith Can't play from behind or win the big game. So If they don't want him why in the H*LL would we??

For those who talked about Smith's QB rating as the reason to get him...well...
Romo's career QB rating = 95.3 = 5th all-time.
So yeah...that's not really a good excuse to get Smith.

I think he gets far to much stick and is a better qb than many who are starting in this league. Tony is not one of them though so no.

Does Alex Smith play DE? WR? RB? RG? C? RT? LG?
Or................. DB, Safety?
No, he doesn't. He does nothing to help this team.
Good grief.

Lmao! I figured this would be posted at some point. Alex Smith is not a good QB. And behind this OL, he will look downright horrible. He was in no way a reason for why the Niners are having success. Kaepernick is proving that right now. Harbaugh has designed a very good system in place for any QB to succeed. Great defense. Great running game and OL and some good WRs to throw to. You could plug in any competent QB there and he will have success.
Niners have been trying to find any excuse over the years to move on from Smith. Now they have. They even tried to go after Peyton even after Smith had them in the NFC title game and a muffed punt from the Super Bowl.
Our franchise will be going backwards signing him.

That is misleading. All they ask Smith to do is drive the bus and not throw picks. He can be a solid backup or a starter for a team with a great defense but that is about it

I don't think that you can reasonably call what the 49ers run a West Coast Offense. In a WCO you throw the ball. You throw it a ton. The 49ers average 26.5 passes a game. That is second lowest in the league. Only to Seattle throws less (25.6). SF runs the ball over 30 time a game -- they are 6th in the league in attempts.
It seems that SF plays exactly the opposite of a WCO. I think you confuse Geography with Offense style.

and you wonder why he makes such dumb statements?
Like Juck and ufcrules Romo could be MVP of the Super Bowl 5 times and they would still say he stank. They just hate him like your friend does.

I dont hate him. I dont "hate" anyone. I dont like him as the QB of my favorite team. I feel he is a major factor in the losing culture we have. BTW Romo will Never win a Sb let alone an MVP. Sorry to burst your bubble.

Put Romo on that 49ers with that o-line and run game and I bet he would easily be in the MVP race and on his way to a Super Bowl ring
