And Defenses know this so they gameplan us acordingly, by taking away our deep pass, letting us try to run because they know we can't and forcing us to march the length of the filed.
And defenses do this becuase they know if they make us take more plays to go down the filed we have a nuch beter chance to commit a penalty and turnover - alot if which is primarily rooted in the OL's bad play, but also secondarily on receivers not executing correctly.

Trent Dilfer: "Tony [Romo] has greatness in him. I think when you talk to other people that really play the quarterback position, there's a few guys that really have incredible greatness in them, and Tony is one of them. I think the issue here is he needs more help from his teammates. I think they are not nearly as talented as people say they are, from 1 to 53. I'm talking about the total roster.”

It has to do with how the points up at the end of the game. Scoring more in the 1st half gives you more points. I don't know why, but I felt the need to point that out.

Leaving the obvious off-color joke alone here. But, as a general rule, when more than one exchange in a thread becomes about the posters and not about the topic, we should all get in the habit of taking deep breaths and trying to return to the topic.
And not just to make life easier on me, but to keep the threads about football instead of about not-football. We're all here to discuss the Cowboys. Not each other. I think. Sometimes it's harder than others to tell.
When asked whether Jason Garrett is the right head coach for this team: "I don't think there is anyone else that could. I think he is an unbelievable coach. We've responded to him and he has made us better football players, better people. If you watch us I think we play with a certain relentless spirit." --Sean Lee

Dude, I misunderstood the "over 10" points arbitrary number. Okay fine. But is me asking for a league wide correlation to this magical number really baiting? If so, then I retract my request. I do not follow these guys around and bait them. They cannot say the same thing.
We start slow. This is a revelation? Lordy, excuse me, I had no idea people were unaware of it. If the thread had been that we are the only team who hasn't scored 2 TDs in the first half of a game this year I might have been as blown away as everyone else. I just think 11 points is an arbitrary mile marker.
Yes, I am alarmed at the slow starts. I want to score 21 points per half. I had no idea I should shoot for 11 instead. 11 points per first half and all is well in the world. Kansas City should be encouraged since they have done this.

Hos starting slow puts your offense in a bad spot.
We all know that.
I played, you played, it's the truth. Then your D or special teams have to try to make it up.
Don't ignore obvious things to make a rather pointless point.
You get that team behind, they lose the running game. They are forced to pass, and they force things.
Face it, this team is not well coached based on penalties alone. Add the rest...it's a wrap.

Whatever man. I am merely asking why 11 is safe and 10 is alarms going off. The number seems damned arbitrary to me. Like I said, if it had been 2 TDs I think I'd have been more concerned. From now on I promise if we score 4 FGs instead of TDs I will pee myself in excitement that we broke this magic barrier.

There are some pretty good teams in the bottom third of that list. Penalties alone aren't a reason to conclude a team is poorly-coached.

I've read this thread in fits and starts. Has anybody bothered to try to sort out why we're anemic when it comes to first half points? Or are we just so frustrated by the statistic that we're not able to sort out why it happens?

I wonder how many times the 2000 Ravens scored 11 points or more in the first half?

New England has only scored more than 10pts in the 1st half 9 times in 11 games and only 8 times for Houston. See they are not perfect

That was sarcasm. I guess you missed it.
Two of the top teams in the league more often than not score more than 10 points in the first half.
"I just kind of stopped in the middle of a route, which is the worst thing you can do," Ogletree said. "He just told me, 'What were you thinking?' I kind of mumbled something to him and he was like, 'You're stupid.' "

Sure it'd be alright to crawl to 10 points in the first half if you have Ed Reed and Ray Lewis on defense, but we're playing with McCray and Ernie Sims.
The point of the stat is it is a reason WHY we lose. We have a hard time scoring points until later in the game. When we are behind. When we are behind, bad things happen and we cannot overcome them.

Here are a couple of posts on the topic. I think I agree. We've had a few of early drops and wrong routes with KO and when Dez was playing distracted that killed a few drives. I remember a few blown OL protections putting us in second and 20s that we couldn't overcome.
Maybe part of what we're seeing, too, is Callahan's effect at half time in making adjustments. That's supposed to be a strength of his. The flip side of playing poorly in the first half is that we play a lot better in the second.
