Default Raiders Sign Olawale Off of Practice Squad

Dov Kleiman ‏@NFL_RealUpdates
#Raiders signed RB Jamize Olawale off the #Cowboys practice squad to their active roster.

Kind of disappointed. Was hoping he'd be a Vickers replacement next year, in the Marcel Reece mold, hybrid fullback/tailback. Interesting that the Raiders would sign him when they have someone so similar in Reece, McFadden and Goodson must not be getting healthy as previously reported.

What's the point in having a practice squad if another team can just raid it? I used to think a practice squad was a set of players we had dibs on. Obviously that's not the case.

Meh. He got a lot of work in preseason, so the coaches had a good idea of what he could do. And they moved up Dunbar and Tanner. He was an available body in case of disaster, but RBs tend to come into the league as what they are. They don't seem to have the development arc of WRs or O-linemen.

But he always played hard, so I wish him well.

Must be worse than i thought he was, after all the raiders signed him. Guess i'm not surprised, big, strong with a little bit of speed. I was hoping he could replace Vickers as well.

Happy for the guy. Big difference in pay getting that call-up to the active roster. Best of luck to him.

Is it too late to vote him into the Pro Bowl?

They do have dibs...and in most cases the player and his agent informs their home team of the other teams intentions and gives them the option to bring them up to the active roster or give them extra incentive to stay on their practice squad.

If they didn't inform the Cowboys of their intentions, then the Cowboys chose not to act on it.
Thank you to all donated to the Jason Witten Camp drive!

I wonder if we will finally go after John "The Terminator" Conner? He was the FB out of Kentucky that we liked so much who got drafted by the Jets. I think it was the 2010 Draft. He was a 5th round pick.

The Jets cut him back in October after he had a couple of injuries. He should be healed by now I'd think.

Practice squad players are technically free agents. So if the Cowboys wanted to keep him, they could make him a better offer than the Raiders did and elevate him to the 53-man roster. But they opted not to do that, so Olewale gets a promotion, a substantial pay raise and the chance to play in actual NFL games.

It wouldn't be fair to keep him locked in a practice squad if a team actually wanted him for their roster.

we've had him all year. Isn't that "dibs" enough?
