FSU to Big 12 rumors heating up again

Just a heads up.

This is mostly the rumors via twitter and apparently someone on 1310 the ticket saying he heard FSU to the Big 12 is imminent.

So multiple on twitter, someone on the ticket and another blog spot that says..."The rumor currently circulating on radio stations in the Tampa area is that the Florida State Seminoles have accepted an offer to become a part of the Big 12 conference. If the rumors are to be believed announcement of this could come as early as next week.


Oddly enough there is a FSU alum with some connections that posts on a WVU board. For a long time now he has said no FSU to the big 12 for this reason or that but always because of what he hears through his connections...all of a sudden he made a post on the board that makes it seems like the tide has turned.

With all rumors...take all of it with a grain of salt.

Have said for over a year now that this move is inevitable. Even with the restructure of funds from the ACC and the fact that they sweetened the pot for FSU, they simply could not make as much money staying in the ACC as they could if they joined the Big 12.

As for the Big 12 and their desire to stay at 10 members, while I do understand the argument for that, it never really held water to me. ESPN is paying for the TV deal that the Big 12 currently enjoys and has stated on the record that they would consider a restructured deal in order to accommodate expansion. They want the Big 12 to expand and realistically, the Big 12 at 11 teams really doesn't change much. I believe that initially the hold up was the possibility of bringing ND in and when that didn't happen, then it was an enter conference thing between OU and other members in the Big 12. OU wanted Louisville to be the next addition and FSU was what many of the other members wanted. At least, that's what I've heard. Could be that Louisville still gets in, I don't know, but to me this has always made the most sense.

To me, it's just the most logical choice.

I love adding the esteem of Florida State to the roster of teams, I hate the fact it would mean you don't get to play everyone anymore though unless they all give up one out of conference game, two if Georgia Tech is pursued.

Louisville made more sense in the Big12 than FSU--which makes almost no sense other the extra dollars on the current TV contract (whose 3rd tier rights many now deem way overvalued).

I've always said "never say never" on this topic.
The fact that FSU was the only school besides Maryland to vote against the $50 million exit fee did raise a few more flags. This could happen at some point.

I think if the ACC were to stand pat, there is a 50-50 chance that in 4-5 years they will be as good as the Big 12 in football again, or better.
Teams like FSU, Clemson, Va Tech, Ga Tech, and even UNC , Louisville, Syracuse, Pittsburgh, and some others all have good potential. And although the new TV contract is not as big as some, it is a big upgrade from what they had. Plus, unlike the Big 12, they retain much of their basketball rights.

Still, nothing will surprise me at this point. Lousiville going to the ACC already disproved my thoughts that the ACC would not sell out academics for dollars and TV market.

I heard FSU wanted to wait and see what happens with Maryland's exit fee. If the Big 12 jumps on Florida State and another east coast team I would expect to see the SEC move on North Carolina and Virginia Tech soon. I wish they would all quit pussyfooting around and get it all situated.

the Big 12 produces easily the second best football going.

FSU has been heading to the big 12 for a year now. It's just waiting on all the pieces to fall into place. As you mention thats why FSU didn't want the larger buyout. But until teams have a grant of rights they aren't locked in. Anyone joining the Big 12 will also sign a grant of rights.

I pull for the Big 12 myself.

But the Pac 10 will argue that this year they are as good or better. And some stats and power rankings would back that up.

But to argue your point for you--Jeff Sangerin currently has the Big 12, SEC, and Pac 10 bunched together, but with the Big 12 leading.
