Could you put more pressure on a kid? There must be no doubt in Parcells mind that this kid is a can't miss. That's an unbelievable compliment. I still can't believe he said that.

Parcells has his faults, no doubt.

But being able to push a guy's buttons to get the most out of him is not one of them.

I don't think this was an offhand remark....

I don't think he was deliberately implying anything. I think Parcells really feels this way about Ware. But I think that comment was made in part because he is feeling giddy from draft day.

Well, there have been enough linebackers broadcast and miscast as the second coming of LT over the years. But I for one NEVER heard BILL even HINT he saw #56 in any of them. Not even when he picked James Farrior with his top pick a few years back.

That was stunning, hearing that. I keep reminding myself Bill has gotten so far down the reminiscing road that he has been pulling kids like that Fincher from UConn aside at the Sr Bowl to take yet another amiable stroll down memory lane...

so it could be just another shuffle down Memory Lane ... absolute senility.... or Ware is gonna be some FREAKING water-toting PLAYER!!

(and my guess is the latter).

That puts a ton of pressure on the kid but as I stated before, I trust Coach Parcells judgment when it comes to picking these types of players. If Ware is half of the player LT was we will be great for years to come on defense.

So what did you think about the draft so far? I graded it a A-. Ware was an "OK" value where he was, Spears was a very good value at 20 and the kid from Tennessee was an excellent value at 42. No reaches so far! I'm pleased by that.

My take is this, and I admit I'm playing junior psychologist here....

THe number one knock on Ware is obviously that he played for a small school against small-time competition. Logically, it stands to reason, Ware might come into camp wondering if he has 'what it takes' to compete with the big boys.

By invoking the Holy L.T. name, Bill makes it clear to Ware that he believes in his skills, that he doesn't consider Ware a 'gamble', but a solid player who just needs to work hard to succeed.

Purely speculation, of course, but again I don't think Bill routinely throws around comments like these without a purpose in mind. Assuring that your #1 pick comes to camp that much more confident that the coach believes in him is worth the additional pressure placed on him.

And I fully acknowledge that perhaps I'm reading far too much into this and Bill was just overly-giddy with how the draft fell out for us today....

I'll say it again...Mike Mayock on NFL Network has been saying for 2 weeks that Ware is the top defensive player in this draft. Pretty strong praise as well.

Having said that though, the LT comparison was stunning!

OK..I don't know who you are...and what you've done with Winicki but I'd suggest you return him PRONTO!

Yeah, Mayock said by his 3rd year, Ware will be a Pro-bowler. We will have to see about that, but seems like Mayock was pretty convinced that he is the Best D player in this draft. And he was predicting Dallas will pick him up too.

Hi Mikey...I just hope the hideous spector of Marcellus Wiley can be erased asap. The way I see it is the ultimate pass rush debacles have already occured. If Ware doesn't turn out be of Abraham-Kearse quality, or if he is somewhat more limited a tweener than even Freeny, at least I am satisfied Bill and Jerry picked with potential IMPACT in mind. Merriman looked to me safer, but Bill stuck by his "catalytic" desires. Ware may end up more of a situational type than many would like, but as long as in those situations we something SPECIAL, I will be happy. Are you lovin the word "hybrid" yet?

One way or another, this team is going to be making life hell on quarterbacks this year.

Props to Del Rio, btw, for taking a shot on that freak of a talent from Arkansas. That was a gutsy project move for a team that still has quite a few needs. I have the sneaking suspicion that kid was slated for Philly if the Jags hadn't stepped in and grabbed him. Anyway, I imagine the kid wil make a starting receiver long before Randall Williams will. (excuse me for mentioning that name on this glorious evening).
