American Express Gift Cheques...

Anybody ever use these things? I tried in 2 different stores and was denied. Far from wanting to be a fool in every store I go to I checked their site and it's not much help. I don't want to buy something simply because a specific store accepts them. Can these things be exchanged for cash? they're not cards they're actual checks/cheques.

You might want to try just taking them to your bank to see if you can get cash for them.

You can also look up where they are sold in your area, then go there to try and cash them.

Someone actually gave you a gift cheque? Do they dislike you?

Most people do gift cards now, surprised someone went that route. I think it's pretty much like a money order. Give it to your bank and they'll deposit it in your account, but a store has no way to make change on one of those things and they aren't instantly verifiable, so I am sure most everywhere won't accept it.

Most stores in general don't like American Express. Trying to use their cheques would make them wretch. I have a liquor store near my house that straight up says on the register, we prefer Master Card, Visa, and Discovery over American Express.

They are as good as cash. Take them to your bank and cash or deposit them.

Nice. I was a bit miffed when I got turned down too, but then I realized 150.00 smacks right around Christmas time is nothing to get angry about.

You guys were right, my bank did accept them. Thanks for the suggestions.
