Default If Witten is a future HOF'er...

Why wouldn't Romo be? Afterall neither has won a super bowl.

Witten is top 3 at his position ALL TIME, Romo is not top 3 in the league right now.

i my opinion tightends are not judged by how many playoff wins or superbowls like quarterback position is.

Because Witten with end up as the #1 or #2 guy all time in receptions and yards for a TE.

Romo won't finish anywhere near the top 10 in TDs and passing yards for a QB... not to mention he has exactly one playoff victory in his career.

Because of the stupid stigma that Super Bowls are all on the QB.

He is however the all time franchise leader (beating two other hall of fame qb's)

That's mainly (but not all) related to the liberalized passing rules that exist today. The stats, by themselves, just don't mean as much -- especially when trying to compare to guy who played in other eras.

Now 40 TDs passing, 5000+ yards passing are happening much more frequently.

Fouts, Marino, and Moon all made it in without a superbowl victory -- Fouts and Moon didn't even make it to a Superbowl.

All of them, however, played a ton of playoff games and won a lot more than the 1 playoff game Romo has won.

In summary: You can be a HOF QB without a Superbowl appearance -- but you need a heck of a lot more post-season success than 1 playoff victory.

There is a much greater body of QBs with great numbers than their are TEs. While I don't think Witten is a better player than Tony, he just has less to compete against to be considered elite.

Besides, despite all the great plays, Tony has made too many mistakes in his career to be considered HoF worthy...yet

They throw the ball more now. Witten is a HOF not sure unless he wins a title Tony ever will be.

Well if they throw the ball more wouldn't it stand to reason that they catch the ball more as well? That's kind of a backwards argument.

You can't say Romo is a product of the times and then say it doesn't apply to the TE position IMO.

I think you need stats and big moments to get to the HOF. Its easy to break passing records now with the rules. Romos biggests moments are gaffs. Thatll be hard to overcome without SBs.
