Default DMN: Romo: Hot December is simply a matter of getting better as a QB and a team

Tony Romo has this reputation of struggling down the stretch. So how does it feel this season when he appears to be playing his best football in December?

“I’d say I’ve improved,” Romo said. “You’re always improving. I don’t understand why you’d continue to play if you’re not continuing to improve. For me, the improvement is always constant. That’s the No.1 goal is your winning and playing in a season. It’s to win every game and then in the process keep improving.”

Romo was asked about past December failures, including a 31-14 loss to the Giants last season with the playoffs on the line.

“Well we did good in ’09,” Romo said, trying to stay positive. “Take them all, use all of your experiences to your advantage. If your team is good enough, you’ll move on. And I like our football team the way they’ve been working and practicing, and I think we have a great opportunity.”

“The evolution as a quarterback you just get better over the years,” he said. “I think more than anything, I’m a completely different player than I was four, three, two years ago. I look back and laugh at that guy who played in some of those games then…Just overall skill. Skill more than anything. Being able to put the ball where I want to compared to then and understanding of the game and things of that nature.”

I agree. His full grasp of the position is far beyond what it was just a few years ago.

Yep.

I wonder if he learned a bunch more sitting on the sidelines and watching Kitna the year he was hurt. I don't necessarily mean that Kitna influenced Romo as a player, but simply sitting out and watching might have helped him, regardless of who the QB was.

Most likely.

I do think Kitna positively influenced Romo in many ways on and off the field.
