Question Question.. where do the pieces fit?

I need a little help here.. I've dropped this question into the chat room but no one seems to have a good answer...

Everyone is declaring this draft a success, and prior to the draft the consensus was that we needed two starters out of the first two picks. So where do these players start?

Can you run a base 4-3 defense that looks like, D-Line: Ellis, Ferguson, Glover, Spears, LBs: Ware, Nguyen, Burnett .. ?

Everyone seems to be talking about our base defense being 3-4, but it would seem to me that takes a starter off the field. Don't give me rotation either, we needed to draft for starters.

So questions, can Spears play the end spot in a 4-3? Can we get the best front 7 players on the field or are we going to be stuck with a Singleton on the field while one of our draft picks sits on the bench?

its a little hazy to me too.

Im told that Ware cant play OLB in a 4-3. So Im assuming 4-3 would give us Burnett, Ngyuen and James/Singleton, which Im not crazy about.

I think we are going to see a situation similar to what we had in the early 90's, where we have packages to match the personnel of the offense. Both Jerry and Bill seemed to be saying that Ware would be used initally as a pass rush specialist. With Ellis and Spears being the starting ends in a 4-3. Bill especially seemed to want to accomplish two things. 1. Cut Ellis and Glover's playing time by 15-20 percent. 2. Not allow OT to mash on Ware for more than 20 plays a game. I remember in the early ninties we looked for reasons to get our nickel package on the field. Playing it alot on 2nd and 3rd downs. Woodson, Gant, Lett, Jimmie Jones, and Jim Jeffcoat were key members of that group but were not starters. I love what we have done. This defense should be able to play any way it has to be very effective.

Now if Ware shows that he can handle full-time LB duties. Then your lineup would be great, I think. Or maybe we can reinvent the old 5-2 defense of the 1950's. I love the flexibility we have.

Nice post! I can't see what is sooo! hard to understand. Parcells is setting up this team to play both the 4-3 and the 3-4 with a deep and talented defensive front seven rotation. While adding talented young players with strong leadership qualities for future years.

Yesterday's draft was a perfect blend if you ask me. Players who will contribute next year, but will be the leadership nucleus of this team for years to come.
