I can see Canty being utilized like Ware, a stand up end playing LB. He won't start, but he will come in off the bench. Glover will come off the bench to spell Ferguson or to play a four-man front at times. This defense is going to be so frickin' nasty.

I like the talent, but I hate losing the #4 next year. If he checked out ok on the character issues, I could get excited about his potential.

it will be a late a late 4th round

No... Canty doesn't have the speed to be a standup end.

If he plays this year... all the better.

Philly only got our 4th next year. The 5th is this years. We also got the Eagles 6th next year.

Canty doesn't have character issues. Reportedly he was trying to break up the fight. His mother is a pastor. He's regarded as a super standup guy, and was voted team captain. Im pretty sure he came highly recommended by Al Groh.
The injuries are a red flag, I agree.

He's a pothead.
BP wants nothing to do with this guy.

True Inman
Canty is a stand up guy who just had injury concerns and I am sure the VA connection sold Parcells on the guy...
1st rd value in a guy who DID play DE in the 3-4

Character does matter.
This is a team who is battling several major injuries to
key players including Pro Bowl talents like Lee, Austin, Jenkins, Murray,
Carter and Ratliff. Other key starters missing include Costa, Smith, Church and
Coleman. That is 11 key players - that's half the starting lineup. Yet we still went 8-8.

Ah, I see.
Still doesn't change my opinion of the trade though. Very good value once he heals.

Correct. He was attempting to break it up. It really cracks me up the way people hear or read that a player has "character issues" and assume that he's a felon or a head case.
Canty's injuries are relatively insignificant too. He had a broken leg as a sophomore, which is a non-issue. He pulled knee ligaments. There was no tear. His eye could keep him out of mini-camps, but a detatched retina isn't like a blown knee. It's a serious injury, but as far as football goes, you don't run on your eyes.

I wasn't saying he had character issues, I said that I hoped Dallas checked out character issues. It seems like a good idea considering he has an injury from a bar fight. I knew nothing about the guy when they picked him. From what others have said, character shouldn't be a problem. Good pick.

Dude - give it a rest. Its obviously the 3-4.
You realize Canty played the 3-4 for Virginia? Yup - Al Groh their coach coached under Parcells.
Spears - yup he played the 3-4 too. Both 3-4 DE's.
Ware - Obviously is moving to Linebacker at 255 - 3-4 OLB
Draftinsiders on Canty
6-7 280
They compare him to Seymour and TREVOR PRYCE, in size, athleticism, versatility and intangibles. Top 50 prospect and future Pro Bowl performer. May be best value in this draft!
projects to LE in 3-4

Canty
Ferguson
Spears
James
Dat
Burnett
Ware
We just added 4 future stars that can play 3-4 in 4 rounds. Amazing drafting.
Canty is a top 15 overall pick if not for injuries.

Great job finding a post way back in the thread when I didn't know the type of player he was.
Glad to know you prefer canty to elli...oh, and spears played more 4-3 than 3-4.

Ellis isn't going anywhere and neither is Henson, Nors.
Is there any reward for good other than good?
