Default Chris Canty, DE?

Great player, but has injury concerns. Did anyone see this coming? Is he another hybrid?

He's pretty much a pure 3-4 DE.

8. Chris Canty, Virginia (6-7¼, 279)
An injury prevented him from working out at the combine and at Virginia's Pro Day on March 23. He will try to work out April 14 in Charlotte, N.C. He did not play football in his first two years of high school, but wound up being all-state at tight end and defensive end. He was a top player in basketball, too. At Virginia, he redshirted in 2000 and started one game in 2001. He started all games the next three years -- when healthy. He played only four games last season; he had 30 tackles, including seven for a loss. He is a very good athlete for his size. He played tight end in short-yardage and goal-line situations. His best position is left defensive end. He has been very good against the run, but not as effective as a pass rusher as you would like at right end. He plays too high; he needs to correct this. He works hard on and off the field; he weighed 220 pounds when he came to Virginia. He needs to improve his upper-body strength. He will be 23 years old in November. He's a very good person who should be a solid player.

I don't see it. He's a pure 3-4 player, something the cowboys are looking for. I can see Spears, Ferguson and Ellis on the line with Ware, Nguyen, Singleton and Burnett at the LB slots. Then we have Carson, Glover and Canty coming in off the bench. The best DL, LB corps in the NFL next year. (You heard it here first)

Yeah,
Let's take a prototypical 3-4 end and make him an OT.

The thing that worries me is his eye-injury.

Will he even contribute? He has surgery in two weeks.........

I'm not a huge fan of this pick.

I don't think they would've drafted him if the eye was that big of an issue. The obviously did a lot of homework on him and thought highly enough of him to trade up to get him.

Thing is... if it wasn't for that eye injury, he goes late 1st early 2nd and we have no shot at him. He's a talent who slid because he may not be ready to play until mid season or later.

That's fine with me... we didn't give up any picks until next year, so se wasted nothing for this season anyway.

Exactly.

BP had to get the inside scoop on this one via Al Groh.
