There's nothing wrong with that either. When I talk about 'elite', I say a top-4 QB in the league. I think Peyton and Brady are locks. After that, I would probably go with Brees and Rodgers. But, think about who that leaves out:
Roethlisberger (2 SB victories)
Schaub
RG3
Eli (2 SB victories)
Matt Ryan
Stafford (threw for a gazillion yards this season)
Because Romo is not elite, he needs a fair amount of help. He needs to have a running game and a defense that can win some games for him. Or a running game that can close out games for him and make him more effective when he passes.
Romo has to do better in some areas.
[View Full Quote]He has a tendency early in the year to blow some games with careless play. If our RT stinks, he's going to struggle. And guys like Peyton, Brady, Brees and Rodgers can do just fine without a running game and 'shoot it out' with the best of them.
But, there's only 4 of those elite QB's in the game. And they have spanned the draft over the past 15 years. Furthermore, QB's that are not elite like Roethlisberger and Eli have more Super Bowl victories than any of them not named Tom Brady (who also had SpyGate working in his favor).
As fans, I think we could save ourselves the sanity of accepting the fact that Romo is not an elite QB. We need some things to help protect against his weaknesses, just like Eli and Roethlisberger have received. If we can do that, I get the feeling that those 'chokes' will disappear.

he's definitely ahead of Schaub, Ryan and Stafford

I'll deny it.
Outside of 2011, his stats have been good to very good, but not great.
He's a 95 qbr guy in a 100+ era.

The problem is that we say this like 1 and 10 aren't that far apart. There's a huge difference. 1 is Aaron Rodgers. 10 is Matt Schaub or so. In terms of championship possibilities, the odds take a huge dip somewhere around 4 or 5.

So QBR's determines how good a qb is now? Only 4 guys did 100 this year and 2 of them only threw for 3k yards.

Why don't people ever just use the best statistic this planet has ever seen? Our own eyes.
If you've watched this guy over the years, you can see, you can tell that his demeanor and his body language changes in games like this. It's like the guy who scores 50 pts in a Basketball game, then it comes down to free throws to win it, and he can never get it done.
Clutch has no stats attached to it. It's within. This is why eventually Cam Newton will be a Super Bowl winner probably. Because he's done it at every level. If you do it at every level, you know how to deal with game/mental pressure.
You can't measure clutch, it's either there or it's not. Eli comes to mind. His numbers are never very good, but more times than not, when the bright lights are on, he is calm, he is precise, and he's not rattled by the moment.
Watch Romo closely in those games. He's totally freaking out.
For all you guys whining about a running game, an offensive line, an all-star defense, none of that came in to play on that last drive. He was outside the pocket, and instead of throwing it away, he LOBS a pass to an athletic guy who has time to readjust and get over there to make the INT.
If you catch him on a game 3 weeks ago, he makes that play. Why? Because it's not a big moment. It's not do-or-die.
I've said this for years, and it keeps revealing itself year after year.

You are too real for this board dude. I feel your pain. Everything you said was spot on. Don't listen to these people questioning your fanhood with sarcastic rebuttals. Seriously. That last drive was the end of my support of Romo. People love to blame everyone else just like Romo does.

Why was the game 3 weeks ago not a "big moment"? It was "do or die". Had we lost to the Steelers, Bengal's, Browns or Eagles we would've never had a SHOT a the post season. 8-8 wasn't getting you into the post season. Had we lost just ONE of those games Romo carried us in? We would've been done. We were 3-5. Any game after that was a big game regardless if his critics want to acknowledge it or not. The chances are extremely small of you making the playoffs down 3-5 and Romo came a game away from doing it.

Steelers game was won by the defense. Romo didn't have any overtime yardage. But let me guess, he gets points for "carrying" us to overtime huh? Bengals game offense played TRASH all day. Yes, Tony Romos offense and you want to give him props for "carrying" the team right? Like I said, a rookie qb can come in and get us to 8-8. Maybe better, maybe worse give or take a game or 2. If we get a few free agents, a good draft and stay healthy next year nobody on this board can tell me a rookie qb who ran a pro system in college cant lead this team to 8-8. I'm not buying that crap at all. You people scared to let go of that 33 year old loser amuse me.

You seem to remember those games slightly different then I do. The Cowboys were losing to the Steelers 17-24 before we got into OT, we were losing to the Bengals 10-19 before Romo scored 10 points with help from the defense of course.
And I asked you earlier and i'll ask you again. Who is this quarterback you are so high on that you believe is NFL ready who played in a "pro style" offense?

The only two on that list maybe Kurt Warner in Arizona and Drew Brees but they still lost due to a choke on defence. Drew Brees is the only one and if I remember right they led the league in the turnover ratio that year.

Team sport people. I dont know why everyone keeps blaming just ONE player when its a team sport. Im pretty sure you can blame the head coach and his coaches, the GM, the owner (same person here), the players and between them, the Qb.
I said and keep saying that Romo´s not the problem here. At least, he´s not our biggest problem. There are many holes, too big many of em, just to worry bout our Qb. I think that many of you are sold on the ilusion that you change the Qb and you just magically win a SB or two. Well, you can change a Qb and that can help, you can take one or two examples (dunno if they exist) where you change a Qb and on the year after, he wins a SB, but Im pretty sure its not JUST for the QB.
To be fair enough, I think we have won more games that lost with Romo (and because of Romo and his doings at QB), and in many of those wins, he play a major role cause he has won without a strong running attack and good OL play.
Correct me if Im wrong, Im from Argentina and love the Cowboys but obviously living here I dont have all the facts and cant understand so well like you the football facts, but the 90´s Cowboys won everything basing their attack on a heaavy and strong running game, and then using the crazy accuracy of Aikman to go for the kill. The point is, if Romo were asked to do that, with that strong 90´s O-Line and running attack, would he succeed? Is just a guess, but Im pretty sure that he would. (like many Qbs would, I know, but its just to make my point): The problem is that our attack is just too much one-sided, we ask a lot from Romo too many times, he must overcome weak defense play, and weak running game, and there is where he fails. He cant do everything and will fail on that. Aikman didnt do everything. He had others who step up and played with him.
On nowadays Cowboys, we expect a lot from our Qb, and thats just fine, we shouldnt expect EVERYTHING from him. We ask him everything, and there is where he fails.
Finally, and again, I cant expect to have our 90's O-Line and Emmitt. I cant expect to have Irvin. Those times are pased and its another guys time now.
What I can and really expect is to have above average or good O-Line play, time for our Qb to pass and dont run for his life, two years in a row with a RB over 1000 running yards, and before that all that, I expect our RB and WRs to be able to play 16 games a season...
