"JJ" = Jerry Jones, not Jason Garrett. Garrett said essentially that he wasn't interested in Norv Turner, inferring he wasn't very keen on having anyone else calling plays. (See press conference on Cowboys site)...well debated on the board here the last few days. To the obvious, I was positing a theory anyway in the post you replied to.

The best thing Jerry could do would be to step down as GM and be an owner only. Find the best football mind you can and hire him as GM. We missed our opportunity to hire Parcells to do that.
It's sheer idiocy to suggest that the guy who owns the team fire himself. I'm constantly amused at the lack of reality you guys demonstrat. Why even waste the effort typing that nonsense? He's got his faults for sure, but the guy has 3 Lombardi trophies as a result of his choices and decisions. Add in a few conference championships too. Anything negative and it's a result of the owner/GM. Fair enough. But if you play one, you've gotta play the other and give him his due for all teh positive stuff related to this team too. Jimmy Johnson didn't appoint himself coach did he? Geez...how about that common sense?? Break it out and start using it for once.

Rob Ryan's in trouble. He can claim injuries drastically impacted the defense, but JJ spent big FA money and his first 5 draft picks this season on defensive players. To regress like this puts him in some danger. I think JG convinces Jerry to hold on to him, but don't feel like it's a sure thing. For JJ to play so many cards and have them go wrong will be gnawing at him.

I'm just not sure about the play-caller thing. I think it could work, but I'm not sure JJ will force it.

Brent's situation saves Ratliff's bacon, more than likely, although Austin, Free and Sensabaugh are at risk.

So he was successful from 89-96, got it. From 97 to 2012 he has been a failure. JJ is the problem with the Cowboys, until that changes...nothing will.

Also the Lions are a great franchise because they won Championships in the 50's.

Jerry?
AS: Cowboys ice their own kicker in 19-13 OT loss

“That is one of the luxuries of my position as owner as well as the ultimate decision maker, general manager and president – I can do that and take the losses and come back for more,” Jones said.

God help us...............

You can think of him whatever you want...that's fair. To say he's THE problem is stupid. I'm only pointing out the guy is damned whatever he does unless there's a superbowl win every year. If not, any problem is his fault by the logic of some on here. I'm tepid toward the guy anyway...I'm a fan of the team and have been for the better part of 35 years or so. It's annoying to hear all the assumptions that he is the reason so-and-so was signed, or that so-and so was retained for so long, etc. without much support other than the guy saying he likes a particular player. What the hell is he supposed to say? That the team is devoid of talent and all the current players suck? Calling on him to fire himself brands that person as a sheer retard...nobody would do that if in his shoes...not even the most simple of the posters on here. Players play the game...when they don't perform, the team loses. It don't have much to do with an owner sitting in the luxury box drinking Bourbon. As an aside, I find it even more amusing that his son Stephen is regarded as just short of genius by the same people who have an inside track to all personnel moves made by the organization, but choose to post on this board.

I doubt the same guy is at the helm of the Lions as was in the 50's either, Jethro...not all that clever a comment to add your eyerolling to. Try harder.

If Rob's in trouble, it is because there are issues between he and Garrett or Jones.

Or he's a pure scapegoat. Ryan's not in the family portrait.
Ivy League

Jason Garrett offense rank minus Tony Sparano: 18, 14, 7, 15, 15

If they make Rob the scapegoat and do nothing else, this team is doomed for failure.

Not that Rob is all world, but IMO he coached his butt off this season. Our offense can't even get on the same page with guys that have been here for 5 years together. What would have happened if the injuries had been sustained on offense?

Meh. JJ is just trying to appease an angry fan base.

Realistically, there's not much he can do.

Let's take a look:

New owner? No.
New GM? No.
New DC? I would say no. Actually Ryan did a decent job, considering a lot of the defense was gutted by injuries. He'll be back.
New OC? I would be on board with this. However, I don't want Norv. He's been here before. He's a retread. I want a new voice in here.
New QB? No. Romo costs too much, there's not a replacement QB on the street who's any better, and there's no one in the college class that's as good.
New HC? No. JJ's already said that JG will be back in 2013. I also think that JJ's afraid that JG will catch fire somewhere else, like what happened to Belichick after he left Cleveland and joined NE.
