His age indicates that we'll surely be looking for another DC in the next few years once again.
Combine that with the fact that we don't run a 4-3 and would need a year or so to adjust and you're looking at a one or two year window when the defense is competitive before we have to possibly scrap those players for the next DC coming in.
Overall, the best teams have a culture in place. They have an identity. How in the hell is this team supposed to have an identity if we're not building for the future?

Maybe we are.
Say Kiffin comes in and starts the 4-3 change, he brings in one of his protege's, say Marinelli and in two years Kiffin retires and hands the reigns over. Marinelli was given a chance to be a head coach (kind of like LeBeau) and failed. Maybe he is committed to be a DC for the rest of his career.
I want to hope that Garrett unlike Jones has a long term plan. I feel Garrett has more to do with this hire than folks are believing.
We shall see.
