Let him manage the oline like he was paid to do.
That is the biggest need for this team.

Hopefully they let the O Coordinator choose his staff.

Well that's completely wrong. Ratliff would be a DT in the 4-3 so there's no moving outside to DE. He'd still be going up against Guards. Anyone can feel free to imagine their own realities where Ratliff only wanted to play NT even though he was a DE in college, but that doesn't make their realities REAL.
A healthy Ratliff would be a perfect 3 technique DT and his contract situation would make for a lot of damage to our cap if he were cut. In fact KEEPING Ratliff might make is easier to also keep Spencer. The question is whether we can work out a reasonable deal with Spencer without a ton of long term risk if it doesn't work out.

We better draft a good DE in the first or second round.
Bye Free and Bernadeau.
Bye Austin and Ogletree.
Bye Sensy and McCray.
Bye Garrett.

Me too...and that is the way it should be if Garrett approves of having an OC.
I hope the DC can do the same.

I completely agree regarding Ratliff. If given the chance, he will excel in the 4-3. He was never really fit for a traditional NT assignment in the 3-4. I'm so happy. Things are looking up.

Having Werder say Spencer is most likely gone actually makes me feel better about our chances of keeping him.

Ratliff might be big and played the NT...but, he plays fast. Get a dog in the middle and he would do just fine.

the OC is intriguing at this point....
I think it's a dumpster fire waiting to happen if it's Callahan: that's a fail and a half and it isn't even debatable IMO. I like Sporano or Mularkey(Inman Roshi's suggestion, but he's solid) What say you?
....this assumes Norv goes to Cleveland, which I think happens by Monday at the latest.

With all our other needs, I would rather resign Spencer over any other offseason addition if thats all we can do (and that comes from a non-Spencer fan). If we don't resign him, it almost forces us to draft a DE and that could end up being an Ekuban, Zellner, Carver, and such.
If we really want a chance to win this next season, a Spencer signing is a must and filling in other holes cheaply through free agency (hopefully), then we can concentrate more on BPA come draft time.

It would be nice if Spencer can stay. He would fit in really good.
Maybe Stephen can find a way to keep him?

Monte will want to keep Spencer, guaranteed. So look for it to happen. Terder is wrong again.
