Do you trust Spencer?
With all the talk about Spencer being the key to our defense next year and paramount that we sign him, do you feel that you can trust him?
Knowing his past performances through out the years, what would you do if it were up to you? Thoughts?

It's not a matter of trust.
He has averaged 5 sacks a year throughout his career. He had a great year last year however it's difficult to commit $10m/year to him when he will be moving inside to a 4-3 DE position.
I just don't see any way Spencer stays with the team if they move to a 4-3. The money it would take to resign Spencer is much better spent on beefing up the DT position.

I think he is a a lot better 3-4 OLB than DE. I don't see him back. Not a matter of trust.

Here are Spencer's sack numbers by year
3.0
1.5
6.0
5.0
6.0
11
So in his contract year, he exceeded his average sack production in the 5 years prior to this year by 155%
It's understandable is one would be hesitant to give out a big dollar contract or not trust him.

This is what I'm talking about. This is why I wouldn't sign him. But from the sounds of it, it's not going to happen anyway.

No.
I trust that he'll be solid. I don't trust him with a lot of money though.

Understandable?? The problem is, your theory isn't true. 2011 was also his contract year, going from 5 to 6 sacks. One could argue that after receiving his biggest contract - franchised for a year - he gave his biggest effort.

Hell yes you can trust him. He is an outstanding well rounded LBer and someone that we would be foolish to let walk. Everyone talks about sacks but Spencer brings more to the table than just QB pressure - he is big, fast, tough as nails, does all of the dirty work and a leader on D. I say we keep him as one of the 3 LBer's along with Lee and Carter - maybe the best LB group in the league (Ware too but he is going to DE by the sound of it)
Spencer has been really, really good since the beginning. I think people overlook his value to this team. He is going to get paid and I hope it is by us.
He has always made plays too that people forget - the strip sack against Wash last year at the end of the game, the blocked field goal after jumping over the center, late sack this year against Cincy, the guy is a player.
A winner is someone who recognizes his God-given talents, works his tail off to develop them into skills, and uses these skills to accomplish his goals.

I trust him more than I trust anyone who looks at sack stats and thinks that tells the story of his level of production. Spencer has been an effective player for several seasons now.
My willingness to pay for him would top out around a 7mm contract. He will get much more from a team that doesn't have as much tied up in a pass rusher.

this is true. he has also been injury free and has taken playing in Ware's shadow in the eyes of both the fans and the front office well.

It wasn't too long ago that most Cowboy fans wanted to run "Almost Anthony" out of town. Amazing how he turned it on in a contract year.
I think it makes good business sense to let him walk, he is a luxury we can't afford.
Behold the greatest Coach in NFL History Thomas Wade Landry (1924 - 2000)
Thanks Juke!!!

Thank you. Everyone keeps saying last year was his contract year. It wasn't. He received the most money he had EVERY had and had a great year.
