Going going gone? Does he still have a role?

Actually I think the move to the 3-4, or at least a lot more 3-4 makes him more valuable.
I think he is much better suited to play DE in the 3-4 than 4-3.
Granted he will not start, but should provide solid depth IMO.

If anyone is on the bubble I think it will be Eric Ogbogu. He is the smallest DE we have and BP is looking to go 3-4 which requires bigger DE's. Coleman is one of the strongest DLinemen we have and plays pretty well against the run; I see him staying at least this year.

I think both guys better bring it this summer or either could be gone.
This is a team who is battling several major injuries to
key players including Pro Bowl talents like Lee, Austin, Jenkins, Murray,
Carter and Ratliff. Other key starters missing include Costa, Smith, Church and
Coleman. That is 11 key players - that's half the starting lineup. Yet we still went 8-8.

I would move Ogbogu to LBer and see how he does there.
If he does not look like he can cut it there, then see ya!

some chaff is gonna fall this summer. we're weeding the bums from the defense. if that doesn't motivate ogbogu and coleman - nothing will.

He is an ideal 3-4 DE. Big strong guy but not enough speed to be a every down 4-3 DE probably but can hold up at the point to be one in 3-4

I think Coleman stays. He plays the run well and is probably best suited as a 3-4 end. Good backup. I think Ogbogu is in trouble unless he has some ability to drop into coverage as a 3-4 LB.

Coleman can play in both schemes as a DE and can even play some DT in a 4-3. Role seems to be considerably smaller though unless he really develops. I would give up on Ogbogu before him though. Kenyon still very young.

I'd try Ogbogu as Ware's backup.

With Canty having some medical issues I think Coleman's chances of sticking are greatly increased. If Canty was coming in fully healthy I'd say he is gone. I think this will be his last shot but in a 3-4 he just may find his nitch.

I've tried to fit Coleman in as a 3-4 DE... he projects well there... but, in all honesty, I did it because back DE was a position I thought they might skip to fill other needs... they improved there, though, with Spears and Canty...
Coleman couldn't beat out Wiley... Wiley got shipped out... I can see Coleman handed his pink slip after camp, now, too... there simply isn't room for him... and that would make more sense than getting rid of Ellis or Glover...
Ogbogu is a OLB in the 3-4 with Thorton, Ware, and Shanle... I'd say he has some job security... assuming that the do use Burrnett as an ILB in the 3-4...
Singleton... gone IMO...
