Spagnola: Another Tale Of Knowing When To Fold’em
http://www.dallascowboys.com/news/ar...8-3c1213076665
IRVING, Texas – Here is an old tale, and no pun intended, please.
Once upon a time – hey it was 24 years ago now – current Fox pregame analyst Jimmy Johnson became the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys. The year was 1989. He had made his name in college football, first as a defensive whiz and then as the head coach of the Oklahoma State Cowboys and later, as he likes to say, at The U, where he won a national championship with the University of Miami.
Oh yeah, he had become one of those walk-around head coaches, mostly because his pal from their days at the University of Pittsburgh, Dave Wannstedt, had become his defensive lieutenant along the way. But when it came to coordinating an offense, calling offensive plays, Jimmy didn’t know … well let’s put it this way, he knew enough one night before a road game in the team hospitality room to diagram a couple of plays for us skeptics on a cocktail napkin.
But that was it, OK.
So when he came to the Dallas Cowboys, Jimmy would be at the mercy of his offensive coordinator, and he couldn’t bring his guy from The U, Gary Stevens, with him. Well, as this story goes, in order to pry Wannstedt away from Don Shula and the Dolphins to become his defensive coordinator in Dallas – Wannstedt had just taken an assistant’s job two months prior with Miami – Jimmy, again, as the assumption went, agreed to bring Shula’s boy, Dave, the quarterbacks coach with the Dolphins who wasn’t seeing eye to eye with some guy named Marino, if you can imagine that, along too as the Cowboys’ offensive coordinator.

He should write the exact same column on the struggles of this offense, penalties and game management and then say we might need a change.

Good stuff. Now Garrett needs to understand he needs help with the offense.

I can appreciate Mickey's points, but our Offensive and Special teams play were worse than our Defensive play, so I hope we address those 2 issues.

happy birthday
"I could've done a $2 billion takeover (in another industry) with the capital I put in the Dallas Cowboys," he says. "I really could see (myself as) the idiot who had something real good, who blew it all to coach the Cowboys. I just knew that was going to be my legacy." Jerry Jones 9/14/2012

We'll settle this with a good dust up.

Special teams gave up 3 Touchdowns.
Defense had a rash of injuries as an excuse.
What was the offenses excuse for not scoring more than 10 points in any first half ?

just because the Offense and ST need help does not mean we should ignore the defensive failures.....
we are 2 weeks into the offseason, Kiffin was available and obviously was the guy they wanted....they jumped....it does not mean the other two will not be addressed, and it does not mean they scapegoated the defense....it just means they addressed the defense 1st, (actually with firing Peete they started with the O first )...but they are by no means done.
maybe the guys they are targeting are still in playoffs....maybe they are making a list of guys to interview, maybe they are waiting for some of the other staffs to clear out.....let it play out

I thought this was going to go somewhere worthwhile about a case for a new OC, but alas, the mouthpiece of the Cowboys pumps a little more sunshine up our keisters about Kiffen instead.

Meeting between Jerry and Mickey
Jerry " Mickey I have no idea why I fired Rob. I think it was a backwash episode with stale liquor and a 3 day old Shrimp Burrito. I had the sweats and runs all night and then dreamed I was the owner of the Tampa franchise and we had just one the Super Bowl. BTW, here's a nice bonus check. Now write a article in less then 1000 words telling everyone that Rob was obstinate, didn't wash his hair on a regular basis and used profanity for no reason at all and he had to go".
Mickey "I'll come up with a nice piece of fluff with proper spin that makes you sound like a saint. For an extra 5K in the bonus I'll go ahead and draft up an article on why you got rid of Jason and have it ready to launch at the appropriate time".

But he won't.
We need wins, and that's all we need. I don't give a damn about anyone on this roster over wins. I'd trade Ware, Lee and Dez if it meant more wins.
