Default DC.com: Draft show 1/18

Cahill and Broaddus

* Cowboys are not in a good posistion in the draft. Not really getting good value for their pick at 18. On the borderline of getting a 2nd rd grade guy.

* in 2009 Dallas had a 1st rd grade on Lesean McCoy and Max Unger.

* Email: How come Dallas is good with UDFA?
Chris Hall doesnt allow scouts to mess with draft grades after the draft, and guys that are still on their draft board that didnt get drafted become priority to sign as UDFA.

* 2010 draft: Dez bryant started off slow but has grown in to be top guy. Dallas learned for 2009, and looked at Baltimore as possible people who wanted Dez.

Sean Lee, on Dallas draft board #16.

Lissemore in round 7.

* Caller: Major needs in the draft?
Broaddus says the name he's hearing initially is Vaccarro at 18. Early tho. Depends if they grade him over one of the G

* 2011 draft: Rd1 was either going to be Smith or Watt.
Bigger need was T and was the right choice at the right time.

Rd 2 Bruce Carter, scouts loved Carter. His range willingness to hit. Easy projection. There were questions on if he would recover when drafted, but its paid off totally

Rd3 Demarco Murray, Found a every down back. Injury history, but hit it on drafting Murray.

Rd6 Dwayne Harris, recommited himself this yr, and is playing with alot of quickness. Possible big impact in 2013.

* Email: How come Dallas misses on alot of RD3&4 guys?
Sometimes you draft guys who you have rd2 grades and they fall so you draft them. Sometimes its bites you. Example, Dallas had a round 2 grade on Witten, and they drafted him in round 3.

* Draft 12: Trade up to 6 for Claiborne.
Didnt see it coming(nobody did). Morris was #2 on Dallas draft board. Probably get 2 starters if you stay put.

RD3 Crawford, will benefit from Marinelli if he comes to Dallas, and take him to a higher level.

Later in the draft strategy. Broaddus says he's seen alot of tape on him at E Washington and he likes what he sees.

Kylie Wilbur had oppurtunities to play, didnt see much.

* Like to see Dallas do differently in the draft?
Sometimes scouts get a little too caught up in what the coaches have to say and what they want, when putting grades on players.

* Email: Barrett Jones where he could go with his injury?
Probably better suited to play C. Late one or early 2.

* Main needs in 2013?
Biggest needs are DL and OL.

* Caller: brings up Ansah in RD1
Ezekiel Ansah you draft him high for DE. Comparisions to Pierre-Paul with a little less burst right now.

* Round Predictions on what posistion Broaddus thinks is drafted

Rd1 DL
Better grades.

RD2 G
Worford would be a good pick, Barrett Jones.

RD3 RB, S
Deep draft in both posistions. Will probably get good value here.

RD4 QB
QB from Syracuse everybody is talking bout.

RD5 ILB
Who is going to backup Lee?

RD6 CB, TE
A guy that has the size for CB.

RD7 Athlete
Somebody that is athletic and does something really good.

* BPA, If you set your board you have to take BPA.

* Interview with Tom Ciscowski
Process from time the draft ends to the next draft.

Sign UDFA

Next month, visit with scouts on strengths and weaknesses of scouting dept.

End of way, Spring NFS meeting. Scouts gather after being out in spring and update on where prospects are for the next draft.

Middle of the yr, grade out players just draft and some vets to see how they are as a team.

August hit the road, important to get info on character.

Winter meeting, come back to VR and see how the team is developing.

NFS winter meeting, ***** grades on prospects for upcoming draft from what theyve done in the college yr to this point.

Bowl games, attend bowl and prepare for the sr bowls.

Then bring it in and see where the underclassmen are in terms of the draft.

3 weeks prior to the draft, meet as an organziation and build up the draft board.

* Posistions deeper than others.

OL and DL could be the strength of the draft. Some Viable candidants

Tom likes a pure board, meaning dont have a player with a RD3 grade and draft in RD2 because a posistion might not be as deep. Stick to the board.

On Morris Claiborne trade up: 24 hrs before the draft Rams called saying they wanted to move the pick if Dallas would be interested. Talked about who would be there.

Question for Tom, Do you scout everybody equally even if you dont see the team as able to get the player.

Answer: yes because you get suprised in drafts, and brings up Witten, Lee, Dez, Carter.

Bruce if he wouldve finished his last yr of college he wouldve been a RD1 pick.

Interesting stuff.

Carter would have round 1 if he finished last year, that's pretty cool.

While it does look like staying put in last year's draft would have been better overall, I still love Claiborne.

Holding my breath on contract talks. Hopefully we can get something done.

We don't have a 7th round pick.

Let me share a tip here. If we were picking in the bottom half of the Draft, it would be a weak draft that was devoid of talent for us that late. If we were picking in the top 5, it would be a weak draft that meant we were going to take a guy who wasn't up to par and need.

The fact of the matter is at 18 there are plenty of options for this team.

Dallas would have a option of say one of the guards or Joeckel, Id like Joeckel instead. Or, Vaccarro and say Star. I'd choose Star over that all day everyday. And Moving to the 4-3 all these guys at the top of the draft are fits for the system Dallas wants to run now. Its not like before where you had to be Style of player specific.

We have an option at one of the guards at 18. DeCastro didn't go till the 20s last year and many people on here projected him going prior to Dallas' pick at 14 (pre-Claiborne trade).

If your a fan of the draft this is one of the greatest shows that you will ever want to see. Love the Ciskowski segment. Really gave some insights on what these guys do year round.

Reading the tea leaves, Ciskowski when referring to how deep some of the positions are, he really emphasized the OL and DL. Earlier in the show Broaddus talked about Vacarro possibly being someone we could take a long look at. This isnt what I prefer but it could make sense if he is rated higher on their board than some of the def and olinemen that will be available. It was really a great show and cant wait to catch it next week when Broaddus will reveal his big board.

I dont think Vaccarro would be rated over Warmack. Noway no how. I think he could be over Cooper. If Warmack is gone i could see them going Vaccarro over Cooper. I wouldnt like it tho. Id like cooper over Vaccarro too

DeCastro was also over-rated by a lot of people last year.

I agree with the entire post and especially the highlighted part. I was very impressed w/ ciskowski; he is very well spoken, seems to know what he wants to do and has a solid plan on how to accomplish his goals, whatever they may be. Not a lot of hesitation in his answers or that famous "you know" that comes out when the guy has no answer to the question. Was this guy in charge of the '09 and previous drafts or was that Lacewell?

ANy way, it was a good football show w/o a lot of wasted time on trivial non-issues...

Wasnt there a report or something that said if Dallas wouldve stayed it wouldve been Brockers and not DeCastro? I thought i read that somewhere on this site.

LOL i liked when Broaddus started getting irritated with the caller who called him ridiculous for wanting DL in round 1
