Default NFL's Final 8 teams' Head Coaching roles

Does anyone notice the theme here?

Which of the final 8 teams in the NFL playoffs this year had a Head Coach that was also the Offensive or Defensive Coordinator?

NFC

San Francisco? NO
Atlanta? NO
Seattle? NO
Green Bay? NO

AFC

Baltimore? NO
New England? NO
Denver? NO
Houston? NO

How about...

Dallas? uh, YES

If we have a seperate OC it is a good thing. Not a setback, and not a demotion for the Head Coach overall. Instead, it makes us more like ALL of the final 8 teams in the playoffs as far as coaching roles go.

Embrace it.

You're wrong about Green Bay and I believe New England. Not sure on Seattle or Houston, but I think you are there too.

Having a Coordinator does not mean they don't call the plays. Callahan, somehow unbeknownst to a lot of posters here, was already our OC, but he did not call plays.

McCarthy calls the Green Bay Offense.
Belichick calls the New England Defense.
Kubiak calls the Houston Offense.
Carroll calls the Seahawks Defense.

And Callahan already had the OC designation in Dallas last season with Garrett calling the plays.

Yes, he was the OL coach and co -OC. Garrett was the HC and co-OC.
They both had double duties.
Garrett called the plays

Of course, my thread made no mention of play calling but point taken regarding Callahan "DC" designation.

None of them are playing the SB, so they are failures.

I think it will be a good move when it's all said and done.

Now fix the OL and pray for good health and we can compete with anyone.

I think he's right about McCarthy and Kubiak calling most (not all) of the offensive plays....though neither is OC or co-OC by name. There's been a push for Kubiak to relinquish the rest of those duties but it hasn't happened yet.

I thought both Carroll and Belichick no longer called the defensive plays on game day.

The key is finding a structure that works for your specific team. I am sure over the past few years, every combination of HC/OC/DC has probably made the playoffs. I am not smart enough to know where to look for that info though.

Tell me how and where, because I looked it up on their fan sites. The only one I am not sure of is Hoodie, but in the past he has definitely been the Defensive Guru over there and if he gave it up even Patriots fans are unaware of it.

I think in the case of GB and NE you have the Head coach that may be heavily invilved in what plays to install for that week, but as far as play to play coaching they leave it to the coordinators. which most likely is what will occur here. JG will still run his offense, will still be involved in the play selection but as far as play to play in the game callahan will be making those calls
