I am abit concerened about these comments actually. Most are revolving around great character, teamate..etc.... No one comes out to say...he's a monster and going to knock someone out.

Well that probably just goes without saying... everyone knows he's a good player, they're just telling us things the rest of us may not already know

Unfortunately, I didn't see much of those type of comments. Although, I do remembering seeing a highlight of him absolutely clobber the QB from the blindside. It almost reminded me of the hit Montana took from Marshall.

---------UPDATED -----------
Re: Tell me Everything about Marcus Spears
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You have to love the pair that is Marcus Spears and Michael Clayton. I wish they had gone to the same team. All you ever hear about these days is the selfishness of athletes and how people from the black community (especially athletes) tend to have a more selfish and individualistic mindset. These guys were all about team and were class acts.
Tell me Everything about Marcus Spears
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
First, I have always hated the cowboys. However, it seems like I will have to change my attitude since they now have Spears, Peterman, and James. Also, I saw that they drafted Barber from Minnesota. I saw this guy run in their bowl game and all I can say is that he is a fricken monster. With the Tuna leading this team, they will do very well this year.
me Everything about Marcus Spears
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Hawkeye take on Spears is that we were thankful he wasn't at full speed during our bowl game. We did get to see him being interviewed and he is well-spoken, thoughtful.... and has a genuine smile that will get him places in his life after football.
He is more of the proto-type DE, as opposed to Roth, who might be a little small for a DE at the next level... and, Tygertail, you're right on Barber from the Goophies... the guy is a pro back.... just wasn't on a team that got a lot of press.
Dyluke --
My highlight of Marcus' play at LSU will always be the interception he ran back for a TD in the NC game. Obviously, he is an exceptional athlete.

The Tigers loss is the Cowboys gain. Just one interview with Marcus and you know what kind of person he is. Also, from a scouting standpoint he's strong, quick, has a great motor and knows the game. He's exactly the kind of DE you want dropping on a zone blitz because he reads Qb's well and has great hands (just ask Jason White). And he rushes the QB well and as a knack for making big plays. I've never liked the Cowboys in the 80's and 90's but with Parcells and a few former Tigers on the squad, I don't wish total despair to them
as you're probably aware, Parcells tried moving up abuot 5 spots so make sure he got Spears but the ones in question had none of it. Then when it was within 2-4 spots he said they just had top hope and pray and then he fell in their lap.
gotta love it when your top 2 guys end up on your team.

I was the one who made the comment about Spears being a monster on the LSU board. Just wanted to check up on the Cowboys welcoming party. Glad to see everyone excited.
You can sleep well at night knowing that Spears will get it done on the football field. We showered you with off the field info because it's insight you don't get from staring at a draft board.
I met Spears on several occasions at LSU and the kid is very special. He's an amazing person, an electric player, and an absolute delight when he takes his helmet off. Spears played with some very good defenders in Marquise Hill and Chad Lavalais (both on NFL rosters) - when Hill and Lavalais departed, Spears still got the job done while the LSU offense struggled all year long. Teams were preparing for him and game planning around him, but he still broke some noses, drove offenses bananas, and destroyed the opposition in the clutch.
Mark my words, years from now when we look back at where Spears was drafted, we will laugh our off. Don't worry about Spears...

to The Zone and thanks for sharing. Listened to a radio interview of his a short while ago and I'm glad he'll be wearing the star come this September.

We really appreciate you dropping in and sharing your thoughts. You don't have to listen to Marcus for more than two minutes to know he's all class. And it doesn't take you two minutes reading scouting reports and game recaps to tell he leaves Mr Nice Guy on the sidelines and really performs in a game.

Thanks for the warm reception.
Spears is just one of those guys. If you come in contact with an LSU fan and you say "Marcus Spears" they will smile involuntarily. Everyone loves their respective Home Town Guys, but Spears and Michael Clayton were a once in a lifetime duo.
Personally, I attribute LSU's National Championship run to Spears and Clayton. When they signed with LSU, the program was just coming out of the dumps and they were instumental in restoring the magic in Baton Rouge.
Spears wanted to play tight end in college and he was listed as the #1 TE prospect. Bobby Bowden, Larry Coker, and others spoke with him at great lengths about what position he was best suited for. Nick Saban won him over and cut him loose at TE. He played well at TE and after his Freshman year he sat down with Saban and discussed his development with a very open mind. I always thought that was a very mature attitude and the rest is history. I don't know if any other coach would have convinced him to cross over to DE, but he trusted Saban and they built LSU's defense together. I envision a similar path with the Cowboys - Parcells wants to establish a formidable defense and Spears will roll up his sleeves and contribute to that goal. Get excited...

After reading through everything people have to say about Spears I find myself even happier about the pick. I loved the pick on draft day, but wow sounds like we got a player for many many years to come.

LSU fan here from TigerForums.com.
Grew up a 70's era Steelers fan because of local boy Bradshaw. Obviously I despised the Cowboys.
Like some other LSU fans have mentioned, because so many LSU boys have become cowboys I'm now a fan.
As I've gotten older and wiser my allegiances have moved to following the people under the uniforms. I can't root for thugs. I've got to like the men going into battle on Sundays.
Saban recruited good men. James, Peterman and Spears are all men you don't mind if your kid wears their jersey. Spears will represent Dallas well.
Like someone else mentioned, we haven't really mentioned his playing because most of us view the world through purple and gold glasses and we just assume everyone knows what he can do on the field. For those that don't, don't worry. He's a beast and will only get better. We're not talking about some DE that played at some community college against rinky-dink opponents. Spears played and usually dominated against the best of the best. He's still getting better too. His thighs look like tree trunks.
What you can’t find on stat sheets is heart. Spears has heart. When the chips are down, he’s the guys you want on your team.
Not much more to say than you already know. You got a good one. Spears will be one of the best in the game. I have no doubt.

to The Zone and have a great stay, even if you have been contaminated by the Steelers. Keep the info on Marcus coming, we're glad to have you both aboard.
