Default CBSDFW: Garrett’s Tampa Time Paying Off .

IRVING (CBS 11 SPORTS) – Jason Garrett made the most of his final season as an NFL player, and he’s benefiting from it nine years later.
In 2004, Garrett was an unrestricted free agent at the age of 37. He knew his days as a backup quarterback in the league were coming to an end. He also knew that coaching was in his immediate future.
So, when an offer to sign as a backup quarterback with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers came along, Garrett jumped at the chance. He knew this would be a great opportunity to take in as much football knowledge as possible to jump-start his coaching career.

You're accusing me of drinking mediot kool aid when you're the one buying this story hook line and sinker?

And the propaganda was the part about Garrett somehow only going to Tampa to further his glorious coaching apprenticeship. And that he became so tight with Kiffin and Marinelli when he was the third string QB for a few months. Give me a break.

I'm not even claiming that Garrett hates these moves, because I'm sure he doesn't. But acting like it's all Jason and ignoring the decades-long Lacewell relationship is a joke.

And it's a total coincidence that CBS is the official Cowboys station, I'm sure.

no, im buying the quotes of the man in question who I find honorable, intellegent and have no reason to believe he would just flat out lie, over the assumptions of Calvin Watkins, Matt Mosley, and LiL Timmy who have formed their entire careers around fabrication....you my friend are buying assumptions of fools

I don't think JJ actually has any significant connection to these guys. Garrett does.

In fact, JJ could have hired a STs coach (or two) he was familiar with and who we did interview the last couple of weeks, but instead he went with another ex-Buc STs coach.

I agree with your premise.

Daddymat, I didn't call Garrett a liar. The quotes here are about admiring Kiffin, blah blah blah, (but that doesn't say much, he also went on about what a great coach Rob Ryan was) not about whose decision this was.

Notice he never said this was all his call -- and he probably never will. He will roll out the good old "organizational decision" line when PC time finally comes around.

I sure don't know exactly what happened--none of us do-- but I agree that Garrett just does not remotely seem like someone that lies.

Well getting Houston Nutt was all the prove needed that Jerry was making the hires.

Oh yeah Dallas did not hire him...

thats because he knows its absolutely ridiculous to even have to say it.....

I mean really can you really envision ANY HC in the NFL would follow up a question about staff changes with "This was all my call".....you expect him to say things that no coach would say ....

and if asked directly whos call it was , well yeah hes gonna say it was an organizational decision .....

Garrett spent the entire spring, all of training camp, and a month of the regular season with the Buccaneers

he was running the offensive scout teams practice and had close interaction with the Defensive coaches over those months......
