Michael Irvin: It hurts to see the 49ers back in the Super Bowl
Good article from David Moore. Pretty much echoes what I was saying two weeks ago about how I get this sinking feeling the league is passing us by seeing one of our 90s rivals back on top.
Quote:
NEW ORLEANS — San Francisco is back. The Cowboys’ fiercest rival from the 1990s has returned to prominence. A win over Baltimore on Sunday evening in Super Bowl XLVII would allow the 49ers to break their tie with Dallas and join Pittsburgh with six titles as the league’s most successful franchises.
That’s got to hurt.
“I can remain professional and say no, but why do that?” Cowboys Hall of Fame receiver Michael Irvin said.
“Absolutely it does.”
Eleven NFC franchises have appeared in the Super Bowl since the Cowboys last took home the Lombardi Trophy on Jan. 28, 1996. Perhaps the only solace found at Valley Ranch was that San Francisco had also fallen off the competitive map. [View Full Quote] The absence of the Cowboys and 49ers made it a little easier to rationalize that all, proud franchises must spend some time in the valley before they return to the mountain top. That excuse is no longer available to the Cowboys.

I miss his spirit.

As much as I hope SF loses . . . . I unfortunately will likely feel Irvin's pain later tonight.

I view this game as a toss up. Should be a good one.

Man I really don't like the Sword Fighters. I have a bunch of friends that are 9er fans too.... Gonna be a rough SB.

Maybe I'm in the minority, but if the Cowboys aren't in it, I don't really care who wins the SB, one way or the other. *shrug*

It hurt me more when Green Bay was in it.
I grew up admiring alot of the 80's Niners players.
I didn't have any beef with them until Steve Young took that victory lap after the '94 Championship Game.I wanted to punch my TV so bad!

I grew up in the 90's in the Bay Area, this certainly hurts. I remember betting some friends in high school that the cowboys were going to get a 6th title before the niners. I was reminded of that bet on Facebook

I know it's the 9ers but that rivalry is dead. We are irrelevant now and they are at the top of there game again.
I also like Crabtree and Harbaugh. Still don't care who wins though. Just hope it's a good close game.

One has Jerry, the other does not. Who is the Niners owner? They're GM?
There you go.

I do. I want the Cowboys to be the best. That doesn't happen if other teams have more hardware.
Each year those 5 titles have less meaning as other teams win.

We'll settle this with a good dust up.

I'm actually enjoying this SB this year because half of my family are steeler's fan. So either way, they lose. Either, a division rival wins or they can't stake sole claim on 6 rings.
 WANTED. NEEDED. DESTINED.
Go farther, Go further, Go harder. Is that not why we came? And if not, then why bother?

And this is exactly why Irvin should be working as a analyst. He is unable to be professional and feels the need to bring up stuff that is dumb and doesn't matter. So what the Niners are back in the SB? He acts like they beat the Cowboys to get there in the NFC championship like they did in 1995.'
I just wish he would shut up
