Default Does the 49er d performance change what Dallas should do?

The 49ers front 7 is great. It has no holes. They have 2 beastly inside linebackers that can defend the run and pass. They are protected by one of the top 5 inside players in fooseball with Justin Smith. They have a good athletic nose with Sopanga. Ray McDonald is a very good defensive end that plays the run well and has decent pass rush. They have additional good players that rotate in those position. They have Ahmad Brooks who is a very good $7-8mm per year player that is similar to Spencer with a little less pass rush. They have a pass rushing beast in Aldon Smith. They have competent safety play with Whitner and Goldson. Their corners are okay. Culliver is usually good, Tarrell Brown is okay and Rogers is okay.

Yet they just gave up huge qb ratings and yards in back to back games of championship football.

With the rules today should teams like the Cowboys just go all in on offense and draft offensive linemen and receivers?

2 years ago, I would not have thought so, but I'm coming around to believing this is the case.

The QB salary inflation in a no cap growth world is going to cause a defense to have some hole and the offense will just attack the weak areas.

The 49ers defensive personnel isn't as good as you make it out to be, imo.

one can find flaws in any offensive or defensive unit and any unit may not perform up to expectation on a given day

the key is to be balanced and disciplined

most significant needs are:

1) OL
2) defensive front 7
3) safety
4) emphasis no STs

Front 7:
Difference between Cowboys and 49ers = X.

OLine:
Difference between Cowboys and 49ers = 10X.

No, but the Ravens O-Line should. Shows what a big, talented offensive line can mean for an above average QB. The Baltimore O-line won that game imo.

Well, no team plays lights out every game. The niners D is good, but I think a lot of their flaws are in the secondary(overrated). They have an ok front 7 with some beasts in there. Stop their pass rush, beat their defense, as they have a lot of head hunters in the secondary, and corners who's flaws are masked by the front 7.
If you build it, he will run...

Little Ball of Hate

This game emphasized the ESSENTIAL need for the Cowboys to address the offensive line!

Next, defensive line and S need to be addressed. LB core will need some attention outside of Lee and Carter.

RB, veteran WR and TE depth would round out the needs in my view.

No I think what Jason wants to do is have an offense with balance in the running and passing game and a solid defense who can make plays.

Both SF and Balt fit that. Neither offense is the greatest show on turf they are solid offense that can run and pass the ball and their defenses are good soild units that make plays.

The best defensive teams do one of two things (or maybe both).

Create Turnovers, and give their offense more opportunities to score.

Prevent the opposition from scoring Touchdowns. You can give up yards if you can create a stop when it comes to the redzone.

I don't know the stats for all teams, but I never got the feeling that we were
a) going to score a TD when we got in the redzone
or
b) hold our opponents to a FG (or better still create a turnover), when they got into the redzone.

Take the Ravens, there was a stat in the first half yesterday that came up that said they had scored a TD on something like 10 consecutive redzone visits.

I believe it was ten consecutive visits inside the 10 yard line, but I could be wrong. Anyway, I agree with your point.
