Cowboys announce hiring of Dooley as receivers coach, say Jimmy Robinson will stay as "senior coaching consultant"

The Cowboys announced the hiring of former University of Tennessee head coach Derek Dooley as receivers coach, making official a move reported two weeks ago.

Dooley, 44, replaces Jimmy Robinson, who spent the last two years as receiving coach for the Cowboys and will remain in the organization as a “senior coaching consultant.” Robinson got credit last year for the development of third-year receiver Dez Bryant.

The move leaves the Cowboys with openings at running backs coach and tight ends coach.

Go check out a couple of the Tenn message boards and they are laughing at us, cant belive we hired this guy. Apparently most Tenn fans were ready to storm the stadium with pitchforks if the university did not fire this guy.

I dont watch Tenn games, so I am just passing along info.
As the official head coach of the Dallas Cowboys, Jason Garrett is 16-16............"Its a Process of stacking good days"

He could be just an awful head coach. Could do wonders with our receivers

as has been shown you can be a very good or even better position coach or coordinator and a truly lousy head coach.

True.

If he can at least teach the WRs where to line up so Romo doesnt have to every down, I will be impressed.

Interesting...right after the SB.

Who's idea was it to announce it now? After the Superbowl? Are you kidding me! I bet this was Jerry's fault...!

Does anyone know who on our staff (or within the organization) knows this guy? I mean they just didn't pick him at random. He must have had a previous affiliation w/ sombody associated w/ the Cowboys...

So...does this mean we didn't get our option A guy who was on a Superbowl roster?
When asked whether Jason Garrett is the right head coach for this team: "I don't think there is anyone else that could. I think he is an unbelievable coach. We've responded to him and he has made us better football players, better people. If you watch us I think we play with a certain relentless spirit." --Sean Lee

He and Garrett were on Saban's staff with the Dolphins.

Garrett in Miami (2005).

Im a big Vol fan. Dooley isn't a SEC head coach but that doesn't mean he isn't a good position coach. He was a TE coach under Saban at LSU and Miami. Also check out the WRs we had at UT this year.
