Default Which rookie will contribute the most?

My vote will go to Spears. I think he is most NFL ready and will play even more than Ware. Ware has more talent but is very raw and may take a yr to get accustomed to the level of competition.

Next rookie is likely Burnett our 2nd rounder because of the vacancy at LB position and he's been a full time starter at a major program for 4 yrs.

I am not saying Ware won't have an impact. He surely will, esp on obvious passing downs. But it's upto Spears and other DL to hold the opponents to 3rd or 2nd and long in order for Ware to do what he does best....rush the passer.

I think serveral of them will. I guess the question is what you mean by contribute.

If the season started tomorrow, I think Beriault starts at FS. So he would be contributing vis-a-vis playing time and some tackles. He might make some bad plays as a rookie, but he would be contributing. I assume that we will pick up a veteran free safety, though.

The question of who will contribute the most will depend on how quickly we switch to full-time 3-4.

My guess is that Ware starts at DE in a 4-3 and OLB in a 3-4. So he will be playing whatever defense we go with. Spears won't be starting in a 4-3, but he will get the playing time in a 3-4. So I think Ware will make the bigger impact between those two.

But my guess for the most impact right away will be Burnett. He starts right away in a 4-3 or a 3-4. I expect solid numbers from him.

Ratliff will make the team, I bet, but won't get much playing time. I would guess his impact wouldn't be any more than Carson's was last year (and probably less).

I don't think we will see much from Canty this season. Pettiti probably won't make the active roster.

So for instant impact this next season, I would say:
1. Burnett
2. Ware
3. Spears
4. Beriault (could be 2 or 3 if he starts)
5. Barber
6. Ratliff
7. Canty
8. Petitti

I'll tip-toe out on a twig and say Ware. I won't throw any names out there but I can see a performance similar to some rookie DEs and LBs that have come into the league recently.

ware....parcells loves the kid. also ware is so motivated and such a hard worker. from reading his bio's sounds like the type of guy that is always doing something, always on the go, and smart too. he'll adjust quick.
Relentless will probably be an adjective used to decribe him as a pass rusher/defensive playmaker

Spears can play inside or outside. He's going to see the most playing time.

Ware is getting the same oppurtunity as Spears, u don't draft an impact player to make an impact and bench him, even if he struggles(see Eli Manning)

Duane, where does Spear play in the 4-3?
Ware - Glover - Ferguson - Ellis
Do you think he will beat out Ware for the starting 4-3 end?

I would think he would rotate in, but he wouldn't start. I do see him starting as our 3-4 end. I guess the question is how much of the time we play the 3-4.

This should be really interesting this season to see the fits we throw at teams as they don't have a clue what to prepare for!

I agree Spears will see the most playing time although Ware will have the biggest impact. It's no guanantee Burnett will start although I hope he adjusts enough to do so.

Gonna go out on a limb and say Petitti is our starting RT, if not out of camp then by mid-season.

Kid can play, just needs to keep his weight in check, and his only real competition at this point is Tucker. And last I heard the famous Bill Parcells Diet Plan is a pretty darn effective (unless your name is Willie Blade).

Not saying he'll contribute more than Ware or Spears, but I wouldn't write him off so fast. Alledgedly he's already lost 30 pounds since the Senior Bowl, and hasn't even met Big Bill yet. He could be 4 or 5 on that list.

Also Barber's contributions will depend on Julius' health. If JJ goes down, Barber's impact will obviously be much bigger.

I don't think that Ware plays every down at DE. However I can see Spears playing DE on running downs and DT on passing downs.

Thanks Hoov,

The quite period for the off season is arriving. I am going to miss Football!!

I hope Ware contribute the most. If he's allowed on the field, that means BP sees something and means he's adjusted faster than I thought. But the safe bet is on Spears as he's suited for DE/DT position regardless of alignment.

I see some believe the rookie FS may contribute the most. I wouldn't hold my breath on that one. BP has hard enough time trusting rookies already and he's likely not going to leave the last line of defense to a rookie who may not know the system well. That is also my worry that BP is keeping RW at FW and not allow him back to his natural position where he has the most impact.
