SI redrafts the 2012 First Round, who does Dallas take?
6. Dallas Cowboys (Original Pick: Morris Claiborne, CB)
Re-do Pick: Janoris Jenkins, CB. I'm not trashing the Claiborne pick in any way. He had a decent rookie season and showed flashes of the talent that made him the first cornerback taken last spring, and his year-two development might be significant. But Jenkins was one of the rookie defensive play-making stars of the season, and we all understood that he went in the second round due to character concerns. Jenkins had a league-rookie-record tying four return touchdowns, and the Rams had to love the payoff from the gamble they took.

Gotta love Monday morning QB's.
This is a team who is battling several major injuries to
key players including Pro Bowl talents like Lee, Austin, Jenkins, Murray,
Carter and Ratliff. Other key starters missing include Costa, Smith, Church and
Coleman. That is 11 key players - that's half the starting lineup. Yet we still went 8-8.

This is why sports writers should shut the heck up.

Hard to deny it, Jenkins was more of an impact player this year.

In fairness, he does still think Claiborne was the top CB from last year's draft, just questions him at #6. It's not outrageous.
Too bad we couldn't get Kalil... it's very rare to have an OL make an impact as a rookie. That's a big reason why it will be hard for us to draft our way out of the offensive line problem (at least in one year). Ideally, Smith would be blossoming into a stud.

The deal is a good portion of nfl teams wouldn't draft that guy in the 7th round and I'm pretty sure the Cowboys are one of those teams. Parcells would say he's in the box.

And it's funny how, at pick 10, SI basically says that Claiborne is the best corner in the draft. Yet Dallas wouldn't pass on him at 6, because SI hates Dallas, and they don't want the Cowboys to get the best corner in the draft.
Bias exposed, SI.

I still will take Claiborne over him... Mo will be special next season, no injuries to deal with.

Which does Jenkins have more of: arrests; children by multiple women; or drug-test failures?

My favorite hobby - watching Mustangs fall behind in the rearview mirror of my '01 C5.

Not a fair assessment after only a year. Come back after 3 or 4 years, then we can talk about whether we should have drafted J Jenkins. My guess is that he turns into Pac-Man Jones II
Furthermore, yes, Jenkins had more big plays than Mo, but who was more consistent over the season? Obviously the answer to that is Mo. I live in the St Louis area and unfortunately end up watching most of the Rams games and I can assure you that Jenkins had his fair share of rookie struggles, especially in the middle of the season.

Mo is one of the best rookies we've had in a long time. I still like the pick. At least we don't need a corner this season.

Anyone who thinks that Jenkins had a better year judges cornerbacks by doing one thing, and one thing only -- pulling up NFL.com and looking at the INT stat line.
If you do this, it makes you an idiot. Sorry. But that's what you are.
Jenkins was targeted more than just about any corner in the league. There's a reason he was targeted so much. And it isn't because he's good in coverage.

I won't sit here and judge Jenkins' play on the field because I only saw him in few games while I saw every game Claiborne played in. Jenkins was a nice fit but most scouting reports I saw felt he was probably the 2nd most talented corner in this draft but had character issues. I'm sorry but my character concerns for a player doesn't disappear after just one season in the league. Cowboys made the right pick.
