I'm not yet sold on Tyron at LT who struggled most of last season making the transition from RT.

After 2 seasons Watt has developed into one of the most dominating defensive players in the league and Smith has been just okay. The Cowboys would be a better football team with Watt than with Smith who hasn't improved the OL much if any.
Agreed... I understand the sentiment, but to just say that Smith is a 10 year starter to take him over Watt? No way. Now maybe if we say that Smith makes 5 Pro Bowls or something, now that would obviously get the wheels turning.

To put Watt in perspective, his 20.5 sack season at only age 23 put him in the 20 sack club with Strahan, Doleman, Gastineau, Reggie White, Ware, L. Taylor and Derrick Thomas. Gee, I wonder what kinda careers those guys had?

Having said that, earlier I chose Watt as my one player but some of the other posters have persuaded me to change to Aaron Rodgers. He's another guy that is playing at a historic level, and is still young enough to get a lot more out of. While Luck/Griffin/Wilson all could be great, and probably will be at least very good, the chances are highly unlikely that they will ever reach the level Rodgers has played the last two years. Of course, it's almost as likely Rodgers won't either... but I still think he's the best QB bet for the forseeable future.

If we knew Smith would become another Larry Allen then that would be a different story but Watt has become a force rushing from the inside and you pair him with Ware and Spencer and the Cowboys defense would be scary. I chose Luck if I could pick any player in the league because you have to have a standout QB to win a championship. I was very impressed with how he turned the Colts around and with some of the throws he made under pressure. He showed great leadership and poise in some critical situations on a team that still has holes.

He can hang in the pocket under tremendous pressure and deliver a strike. He can also extend plays with his mobility. I picked him over Rodgers because he's 6 years younger and will eventually in my opinion become the best QB in the league. I saw enough from him to make me believe that. I've never seen a rookie QB make some of the throws he made under pressure.

Running QBs rarely survive that genre. Griffin will have to modify his approach to the game, and that will take away what he does best. Luck is a pure pocket passer, and that form of quarterbacking has survived all the pretend new approaches to how QBs play the game.

It is too early to compare Watt with Tyron Smith.

1. OLinemen generally take a year longer to develop than DLinemen.

2. Watt is 2-years older than Smith. Smith just turned 22 and Watt will turn 24 next month.

Watt is effectively 3 years ahead of Smith.

I'm not saying that I wouldn't take Watt, but it's not really a fair comparison until Smith's 3rd year.

I think Tyron Smith is going be in several Pro Bowls. Both were good picks and right now Watt looks amazing. That's histotry though.
I was just glad they had the nads to pick a olineman in the 1st for once. That's one less that we have to find right now.
Watt would have been awesome, but Tyron may be a great consolation prize.
