Default DMN: Cowboys hire LB Kendall Smith as new assistant strength and conditioning coach

IRVING — The Dallas Cowboys have hired former Florida State linebacker Kendall Smith to be their new assistant strength and conditioning coach under Mike Woicik.

Smith, 25, has spent the last two years working with Tom Shaw in Orlando, Fla., at the World Wide Sports Center, training players for the NFL Combine. Smith played at Florida State from 2007 to 2010.

25? Wow. I can't imagine coaching professional athletes who are largely going to be older than me. He must really know what he is doing.

He got a shot with Cards and now it's a few years later.

mroe likely he was told that he had very little chance at a real career in the NFL as a player. Always on the fringe of being cut, etc. That is not much to let go of. Instead he apparently found his niche.

I like it. Bring in a young guy like this and let him learn from the best in the business. Maybe it pays dividends when Woicik's ready to retire.
