Overexpensive oft injured vets like Freeney.
This is a team who is battling several major injuries to
key players including Pro Bowl talents like Lee, Austin, Jenkins, Murray,
Carter and Ratliff. Other key starters missing include Costa, Smith, Church and
Coleman. That is 11 key players - that's half the starting lineup. Yet we still went 8-8.

Dallas Cowboys News: Dwight Freeney A Good Fit For Monte Kiffin's Defense?
http://www.ibtimes.com/dallas-cowboy...efense-1090110
After 11 seasons, 107.5 sacks, and a Super Bowl title, the Indianapolis Colts decided to part ways with defensive end Dwight Freeney.

Defensive end Dwight Freeney is fifth all-time in sacks amongst active players.
The Colts announced Friday that they had informed the seven-time Pro Bowler they would not renew his contract.
The 32-year-old spent his entire career with the Colts, but much of the NFL learned that Indianapolis can give up on an older player a little too soon, as evidenced by Peyton Manning’s rejuvenation with the Denver Broncos this past season.
Freeney’s veteran leadership and decade of experience may be a solid addition to the, who are switching from a 3-4 to a 4-3 defense under new defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin.
The Colts run a 3-4 defense, but Freeney has been labeled a 4-3 defensive end, and yet he still excelled. He is currently fifth amongst active players on the all-time sack list, and 21st overall. Freeney is just behind current Cowboy linebacker DeMarcus Ware.
Freeney has the shown the ability to play outside of his comfort zone and Dallas needs help across the board on defense. The Cowboys were 19th against the pass, which could be attributed by their failure to pressure the . Dallas was ranked 20th overall with 34 sacks.
Did you know there are only 5000 Snow Leopards in the wild now and they are confined to Central Asia? However, the effective global population (those likely to reproduce) is less than half that number.

I'd rather let Crawford play the end spot if we don't keep Spencer.

Yea.
I don't think this team would bring in Freeney as a starter/every down guy. He'd be a pass rush specialist, and I think he would cost to much. But he and Ware on opposite edges could be a lot of fun to watch.

It would be fun to watch, sure. But in 2-3 years when (most likely) both Ware and Freeney can't play anymore, you have two key positions to fill at the same time. Keep the youth movement going. It's much better than handcuffing yourself.

Well losing Ware will be tough to replace, but replacing a situational guy isn't that big of a deal I don't think.
I'm of the crowd that thinks this team needs to win in the next year or two before rebuilding completely has to start. If Freeney can make the difference, I'd make a move...assuming he's affordable that is.

He is pretty much done. If he still had gas in the tank the Colts would keep him; they are WAY under the cap and could easily afford him.

Signing Freeney would hinder Crawford's development. We should put him in and see what he can do. Promote from within. No disrepect to Freeney, but I think we should stay away from grizzly veteran cast-offs and continue getting younger and more athletic.

Indy switched to a 3-4 and Freeney can't handle it. His lack of production last year is more about the scheme than his talent. Granted, he's probably slipped some but he's still got enough gas to help out. Odds are he'd command too much $$ to be worth what he'd do for us, but on the off chance he can come cheap I'd take him as a rotation guy. We'll probably lose Spencer, but we will also lose Butler. If you had to either resign Butler or sign Freeney for a comparable amount, what would you do?

he would. As xwalker pointed out - Freeney would be your nickle rusher. Considering NFL being pass happy league your nickle rusher could play big part.

Forget the Freeney talk - someone else will pay him a LOT of money. We have other more pressing issues.
As much as I love Freeney, he is slowing down somewhat and is hurt a LOT.

you don't let pass rushers go if they can still get it done. With the money they have they could have kept him. Fact is he is about done and not worth what he thinks he is
