Olympic runner Oscar Pistorius charged with murder

South African police on Thursday said they would charge Olympic athlete Oscar Pistorius with murder after his girlfriend was shot and killed at his home earlier Thursday morning.

The circumstances of the incident are still unclear but police in South Africa said they would oppose bail when the Paralympic gold medalist appears in court Friday. The hearing was scheduled for Thursday afternoon but was delayed to give forensics investigators time to do their work, the Associated Press reported.

Police in South Africa do not name suspects in crimes until they have appeared in court but police spokesperson Brigadier Denise Beukes said that Pistorius was at his home after the death of the victim and that "there is no other suspect involved," The Associated Press reported.

Original story was he thought she was a burglar so he shot her. Police say that wasn't their report and they think it is homicide.

If the former, that shows the risk that you run if you are a shoot first and ask questions later kind of person. Allegedly he kept a gun next to his bed, a machine gun at the window along with machetes etc

Allegedly there had been previous allegations of domestic abuse.

This was her. Damn if he killed her, he was stupid. He should have thanked his lucky stars a woman like that would date a guy with no legs.

It does look like hubris.

If it were me, I'd kill for her - not kill her!

He figured the cops would not question him killing an intruder.

"OOOPPPPSSS. I guess she wasn't"

Cops turned out to be smarter than he thought they were.

Still pretty stupid on his part. South Africa is not as nice about things as we are. He is going to really regret it.

as usual you are wrong. If this had been a home invasion any hesitation on his part would have been fatal. But no surprise that you have a limited grasp on reality.

He thought he had planned the perfect murder. oooppppssss.

You can't really be that obsessed with me can you? If you shoot and ask questions later, the risk you run is killing someone you didn't intend to kill. Nothing about that statement is wrong.

Does it take four shots from a 9mm to defend against a burglar?

Good luck in getting a court to believe that.

I don't think it was necessarily his story, nor the police story. It was speculation by media based on the area of town -- and naturally probably jumping to the defense of the hero.

The cops are also saying they are basing things on what neighbors heard before and during the shooting. Wondering if there was arguing way before the "alleged surprise."
