Default 2013 NFL Scouting Combine: Stock Report - Defensive Linemen

Ezekiel Ansah, DE, BYU
Ezekiel Ansah was billed as a freak athlete, and he definitely lived up to that. Measuring in at 6-5, 271, Ansah ran a 4.63 40 with a 1.56 10-yard split. He also notched a 34.5-inch vertical. More importantly, Ansah was exceptional in the drills. Afterward, the NFL Network's Daniel Jeremiah said that one team in the 15-20 range told him that they have no chance of landing Ansah. The BYU product will be a top-10 selection.

Tank Carradine, DE, Florida State
Tank Carradine was an impressive 6-4, 276 with 34 3/4-inch arms at the weigh-in. He won't be able to work out, but he gets a stock up for all of the positive buzz he has generated. There's some talk that if he checks out medically, he could sneak into the first round.

FEB. 25 UPDATE: Carradine continued to look good in Indianapolis. He recorded 28 reps of 225 Sunday. That's a pretty impressive number considering his arm length.

Sharrif Floyd, DT, Florida
NFL Network's Daniel Jeremiah has said that everyone has Sharrif Floyd in their top five, but I have to wonder if teams will be concerned about his arm length. Floyd had the second-shortest arms of all the defensive linemen (31 3/4 inches) at the Combine. On a positive note, Floyd (6-3, 297) measured in close to what he was listed at Florida. He was also as good on Monday as advertised. His 4.87 unofficial 40 was impressive, and he was dominant in the drills. He drew high praise from Warren Sapp. Floyd is considered a top-five prospect.

Johnathan Hankins, NT, Ohio State
Johnathan Hankins had one of the Combine's worst 40s, running it in 5.31. The 40 isn't a big deal for nose tackles, but Hankins' body looked very sloppy. Also, his 26 bench press reps were disappointing for a 6-3, 320-pound lineman.

Brandon Jenkins, DE/OLB, Florida State
Brandon Jenkins was listed at 6-3, 260 at Florida State. He measured in at 6-2, 251, which is bad news for his draft stock. Jenkins is too small to excel in a 4-3, so he'll be limited to 3-4 schemes.

FEB. 25 UPDATE: Jenkins tallied just 18 reps on the bench, which is a low number considering his size and arm length (33 1/4).
Scratch him

Quote:
Bennie Logan, DT, LSU
Bennie Logan packed on 14 pounds of muscle since he weighed in for LSU. He's now up to 6-2, 309 with solid 34-inch arms. He's a borderline first-round prospect, so the weigh-in really helped his cause.

FEB. 25 UPDATE: Logan had a solid bench performance Sunday afternoon. He put up 225 pounds 30 times.
Intrigued by him

Quote:
Damontre Moore, DE/OLB, Texas A&M
Damontre Moore is not off to a good start in Indianapolis. He totaled just 12 reps of 225, which is a pathetic amount. His arms are somewhat long (34 3/4 inches), but there's no reason why he shouldn't have been in the high teens at the very least.

FEB. 25 UPDATE: Damontre Moore's stock continues to drop. He ran a hideous 4.95 40 and then hurt himself on his second attempt. Making matters worse, a scout told Pro Football Weekly that Moore is "a mess off the field."
Still say he is there at 18 and he can definitely play.

That's excellent size and arm length for Tank. He would be a perfect fit as a Strong-Side DE in Kiffin's scheme.

The 1st round seems really early considering the injury.

Good measureables, too bad he didn't run. The 1st seems really early for him.

He needs to improve at his Pro Day. He is one of the high rated guys that I've been a little skeptical about. His burst does not appear elite in game footage.

Default Moore looked AWFUL today...

and Mayock admitted as much. (mayock had him as #2 D.end on his board)....he's weak and pulled up lame in his 40. The scout's comments about him being a "mess" can't help

The more I read about him, the more I like Datone Jones if we trade back a few spots.

On a side, I really think WalterFootball is the best site out there as far as the draft goes.

FEB. 25 UPDATE: Hunt continued his awesome Combine on Monday with a 4.60 official 40 and a 34.5-inch vertical. Hunt is very athletic, but as Scott Wright of DraftCountdown.com cautioned, Hunt looks like Tarzen but plays like Jane.

I just said that about Hunt in another thread a little while ago.

Cliche' alert!

I was thinking it when I saw the down arrow on the report, then it was in the report too.

Moore, LSU ends,Jenkins all were a huge disappointment. On the other hand Washington, Taylor, D.Jones and Carradine are very interesting for us in rounds 2-3-4.

I like Jones, too. I think he could make a great LDE who can be stout against the run and still provide consistent pass rush ability.

He is also the sort of guy who you could slide to DT in nickel situations to bring in a specialist edge rusher at DE.

However, with the way things have been unfolding maybe a guy like Werner will fall into our laps at #18. The guy is a very good player but just isn't a prototypical edge type rusher. I see him as more of a power player who plays with great leverage and pad level.

I've never seen him play a down, just saw a couple drills, but Brandon Williams looks unbelievably impressive physically. He carries his weight well and looked like a bull. I've seen him mentioned in a few mocks. I'm intrigued.

That's what I've been thinking about him. Why couldn't he play a 3-tech in passing situations?

He would give us some versatility along the line for sure.

I really like him and he's growing on me even more.

Paulines USA Today

http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports...iders/1946803/

Nick Williams, Samford: Williams was the top small-school performer of the day. At 309 pounds, he ran 4.94 in the 40, posted a vertical jump of 33 inches and a broad jump of 9 feet, 3 inches. Scouts were impressed with the way Williams effortlessly moved around the field and easily changed direction during drills. He's now getting middle-round consideration by teams who feel Williams can line up in a variety of defensive schemes.

Boy the top of this draft class is imploding.

At this rate, the Fisher kid may end up #1 overall.

I think this is very likely. We should start thinking about the possibility.Since there's no definitive top talent in this draft, teams at the top may be more inclined to take guys that they like as opposed to guys universally considered the best.

Werner and Moore are both seeing their stock drop...

Also, I am not in love with D . Jones, but he's a good player and will be available. And would fit very nicely in our D

Like Logan a lot but don't see him sneaking into the late 1st. Way too much breadth and depth at the meat positions this year.
