There's just more supply of people who can do that job compared to elite pass rushers, blinside tackles, cover cornerbacks and cataclysmic offensive playmakers. Look up the history. It's been well over a decade since a team took a guard with a Top 15 pick. A NFL team taking a guard with a Top 15 pick is an anomaly, I wouldn't count on two anomalies happening in the same year. Neither of these guys are in the Steve Hutchinson category of "all around" no brainer, and they both have holes in their game.

This is exactly right. One of the guards might be off the board before Dallas picks, but it's unlikely. And we wouldn't take the other, anyway. We'll wait until the second, or even the third round to take one, depending how things shake out.
When asked whether Jason Garrett is the right head coach for this team: "I don't think there is anyone else that could. I think he is an unbelievable coach. We've responded to him and he has made us better football players, better people. If you watch us I think we play with a certain relentless spirit." --Sean Lee

He's right that guards drop but obviously has no idea about the talent.
We need wins, and that's all we need. I don't give a damn about anyone on this roster over wins. I'd trade Ware, Lee and Dez if it meant more wins.

What would be sarcastic? That Warmack is short, fat slow footed phone booth guy? He's all those things. He's 6'2", plays with a huge gunt hanging over his belt and he ran a 5.5 among the slowest of all offensive linemen at the Combine. He's going to struggle in the NFL in space blocking athletic linebackers on the 2nd level, he's going to probably be a liability in the screen game and he's going to be a bad fit in any zone blocking system. He's not nearly the all around player that Steve Hutchinson was who could dominate in-line and on the move. Again, those phonebooth blocker skillsets are just generally not that rare. You can take a big slow college RT and move him inside and provide that skillset. The Ravens have bookend guards doing exactly that.

Now why didn't we think of that?

Then if you don’t have the bodies to start with (or very nearly) then you shouldn’t be attempting the move to a Kiffin 4-3 scheme in one year.
What happens if you don’t get the guys you want in the draft?

We tried. Brewster. He didn't pan out.

Again, you have no idea what you are talking about. You're looking at the 40 time of guard and making a complete judgement of what type of player he is. That's real smart.....are you sure you're not a professional scout? Watch the slide drills and the pull drill from the combine. His feet are perfectly fine for a guard in any scheme.

I don't care about what internet draft dorks say about him, I care about what NFL front offices say about him, and they're going to say that a limited athlete guard who couldn't play tackle in his wildest dreams isn't worth a Top 20 pick ... just like they did with DeCastro last year, despite your insistence that "Pros" thought he was the bestestest guard who ever guarded in the history of the draft.

well I just got done watching the combine on my DVR and you are full of crap on Warmack.
huge 'gunt'?
BS
Slow? Maybe in the 40 but you think that is important and that is BS.
His 10 which is far more important for a OL guy was only about .07 slower then cooper.
His footwork looked great.
And by the way all the guys at the NFL combine say the same.
So take your 'expert' opinion and take a hike

Brewster was drafted to be a tackle, he just sucked at life. But to hear it told, you could just draft any fat tackle and have our very own Carl Nicks!

Why is everybody getting so worked up over one poster's take on a player not even likely to ever be on our team? There are high picks every season who never make it in the NFL. He's making a good argument, even if you don't agree. What's the big deal?

Because it's draft season? What else is there to talk about?
Don't look now but 99% of the players being discussed on these forums will not be on the Cowboys next year.

For our scheme, it would not surprise me if we have Cooper rated higher than Warmack.
But who knows for sure...

If you're saying he won't be drafted in the top 20, I'll take that bet.
