Default ESPND: Falcons Likely To Release Turner

The Atlanta Falcons are likely to release running back Michael Turner, who is scheduled to make $6.9 million next season, league sources told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter on Friday.

Turner, 31, rushed for 800 yards and 10 touchdowns last season as the Falcons reached the NFC Championship Game. It marked the fifth straight season in which he reached double figures in TDs. Read More Here http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/89...turner-sources

Me either he's very solid, but he plays in a very weak defensive division.

I have heard that a good deal of Falcon fans were not happy with him and the teams running game as a whole.

Who knows.

They hate him in Atlanta. Turns five-yard holes into two-yard runs.

He tiptoes way to often and didnt hit the hole hard most of the year. Falcons fans are over it.

Atlanta folks wanted him out after last season.

Atlanta will miss him because he took carries off of Rodgers and they saw how effective Rodgers was because he was fresh. I don't think Rodgers can be a Michael Turner of 08.

I think Atlanta run game suffered since Dahl left them.

It makes sense to me. That is a lot of money to pay a guy who just came off his worst season as a starter and just turned 31.

I think he has been very good for Atlanta. His struggles have come in the playoffs, but that is true of the entire team. He has had some good regular seasons for the Falcons until this past year.

The average football life of a running back is 3 years. Turner gave Atlanta 4 good years(5 total) after playing 4 in San Diego. Why hang onto him at the price tag he is scheduled to make? He isn't going to produce 1000 yard seasons any more, but he can be useful to a team. Just not at a high price.

Veteran FA RB are a bad idea. See: Barber.
